There are ~310 million Americans. Of that, nearly 40 million live in California and nearly 4 million in Los Angeles alone. For California's government to govern that massive chunk of the American population is indeed a handful, using such a small team in comparison to any other state via citizens per government official.

Of course, it's expenses are also scattered, forced to focus on dense regions, while neglecting much needed areas with smaller populations.

What do you guys think of this plan in motion? Is 6 states to much? I can imagine 2 or 3 would suffice, but splitting such a massive state in 2 alone already seems quite scary and unpredictable.

I live in California ._.
OT, Two sould be enough I guess, but I like it how it is >_>
I prefer it the way it is too. Problem is, the White House, the Senate, Congress, etc., no one will allow California to expand on it's government status. For instance, New York has 8 million citizens. That's 4 million per senator. California has 20 million citizens per senator. Maybe if they allowed positions based on population and not per state, that might be beneficial on our behalf.

I like 2, but why California? lol look at NY. That sh-t is too overcrowded.

Like I said in original post, Los Angeles alone has over 4 million residents. New York as a whole has 8 million. In fact, Los Angeles has more residents than more than half of the states.

Splitting California wouldn't make it any less crowded at all.
That's like telling the NBA that the Western conference has to many teams, let's split it into two. There's still gonna be just as many teams playing each other lol.

Gangs in California prolly like this idea aha.

I'm from Cal btw.

You guys are missing the point. It's not to make it less crowded. It's to give it more financial stable (possibly) and more government official representatives. All petitions to increase the amount we currently have were denied, but they can't deny a state from having a government, it has to have 1. So this plan is basically plan B to plan A that failed.

Northern and Southern California have long been at odds, and the idea of the sate splitting has gotten more popular as Southern California has adopted increasingly expensive policies while running net deficits.

Basically - LA is about to become Detroit, and Northern California would rather distance itself from the disaster of Southern California.

It's not likely to happen, though. The Federal Government will do just about everything within its power to keep California's two senate seats and 34 electoral votes as deep in the Democratic party as possible. Splitting the state would severely wound the Democrats - almost certainly losing 12 points in the electoral college - and that is more than enough to almost permanently shut them out of the White House and devalue their senate seats.

Many states could realistically consider a division into separate states. Their populations and interests have become diverse enough that it would alleviate a number of tensions.

Of course, it will almost never happen. The Democrats would become a minority within the Senate and the House would be about the only place the Democrats had much standing. Third party candidates would also start to crop up more often, and the GOP would have trouble keeping the 'Tea Party' from overtaking its ranks.

With the parties being embedded at both state and national levels - they will shy away from subdividing states at all costs, as it will severely weaken both parties.

Yeah I actually thought of something similar to this before but more along the lines of just two states. Anyone who lives or has been in Cali for a long period of time knows that Northern California and SoCal are very different. In fact just splitting the the state between the two like North and South Dakota would be great idea. Since even people in California have a major differentiation of the two, it might as well be two different states.

Even LA is broke right now but as been stated the state as a whole doesn't have enough legislators to govern such a large population stretched across such as big state. I think breaking up the states would set more focus on the places that need attention which is overall good. So two states would be good, 6 is a little over the top.

spliting california would only make things worst for the gangs as they will see this as a matter of turf
The gangs are mostly in the Los Angeles county. If you know the size of this county, you'll realize it's not much of California, but it's more than big enough to house all these gangs. In perspective, if you were to combine the 2 states of Delaware and Rhode Island into one with a combined size of roughly ~3700 square miles, then Los Angeles is still bigger with a ton of space to spare, measuring in over 4700 square miles. L.A. County is massive.

In other words, if Cali were to be split into 6, it would have absolutely no effect upon the gangs.
