Since there will be lots of spoilers, I chose this forum.
I think Naruto the show/manga has completely gone the route of Dragonball Z and that isn't a good things.
The basic problem of dragonball Z, though when it came out, it was revolutionary in the west, because we could actually see people kicking some real butt, and not have some lame no punch policy. Eventually, I quickly grew tired of the poor dub and censorship and moved on to the sub version. Dragonball Z went from a story where the risk was just the community, maybe t he world, to the risk being the universe. Everyone just kept getting more powerful without any logic for that. the premise by the end of the Freeza saga was that Goku was this legendary Saiya-jin, a once in forever character and rose to avenge all the death of the Saiya-jins. So this explain why despite the Saiya-jins being a warrior race, constantly fighting, seeing their brothers dying, seeing their world destroyed, None of them ever went super saiya-jin.
Then we see Trunks do it. Then Vegita. Now all of a sudden, Freeza goes from this awesome villian to being weaker than Android 16-18, and Cells, and probably Android 20 as well. Then we see Gohan Go super saiya-jin, followed by Trunk's ultra Saiya-jin form, and eventually to Gohan's SSJ2 form. Cell himself got even more powerful after blowing up and absorbing some of Goku's cells.
We then see Cell become an after throught as now Majin Buu is depicted as a lot more powerful then cell ever was. With that, we see Gohan, Vegita, Goku, Piccolo, and just about everyone else get a massive power boost, making them way more powerful then Cell as well. We also see 8 or 9 year old Goten and Trunks Go SSJ. By then, the whole idea of Super Saiya-jin was completely thrown out, and it renders the entire 1st major saga, completely senseless as kids were now going super saiya-jin, but yet centuries of fighting, and seeing friends and family dying, and even their brothers dying in the leading edge of Freeza's Death ball, but yet none of the saiya-jins ever went super saiya-jin.
SO, how does this relate to Naruto. Well, Naruto started off with a lot of set rules of what can and can't happen. It was squarely a local and regional or community base threat level only. Nothing that can actually DESTROY the world. Kids and Teens were far weaker than Adults. Hiruzen was this unbelievable person, who was the strongest Hokage, and one of the reasons he was able to survive and reign for such a long time. Orochimaru, was an ultimate threat, and the Sannins, were like a once in a generation group, and were world renoun because of that.
Fast forward now, Hiruzen still hasn't shown anything that would make him strong (it was ok to say he was older back then, but now, he is simply been written weaker). Teens are routinely surpassing their masters, and not just that, are surpassing Kages. We now have Naurto and Sasuke, easily surpassing all three Sannins, and not only that, we even got Weakling Sakura, being writting as some successor to Tsunade, and they are alluding she may even be better. Making these three Teens, the NEW Sannins, and they were able to achieve this before they even turn 16 or 17. Guys who were powerful in the first few seasons, like Neji, who was suppose to be the genius like Sasuke was, was never writting to be strong afterwords. Haku and Zabuza are now rendered weaklings. Danzo, any of the ANBU characters, any of the advisors and protectors of Konoha and of the Hokage have all been forgotten and far weaker than anyone around now.
With this constant rise in power, we get progressively weaker stories, LONGER stories, more poorly written stories, and the threat is now clearly the world, and no longer regional or country wide. And with that we also see a progressively more bland villains. For example, Obito, now a Jinchuriki, doesn't say anything now. It's as if his mind regressed, and he is just a dumb idiot like Majin Buu was. Majin Buu, for most of that saga, barely said anything, and was just a plot device, and same thing seem to apply to both the 10 tails AND now obito. And notice the constant regeneration of villains and also the revival of characters. In DBZ, the villains in addition to gaining power, also progressively had a more effective and rapid regeneration. In Naruto, guys get hurt, guys are healed, either by Edo Tensei, A healer, Now Orochimaru is in the business of healing the Kage's, Tsunade and Hashirama able to do it with impunity, now same with Sakura. Naruto with Kyuubi power. As for resurrection, Edo Tensei is one big one, plus now with Rinnegan, real resurrection is very much possible.
Oh and speaking of Rinnegan, we had a simply rule of Byakugan to Sharingan, to Rinnegan. It was the way to establish the threat of Pain, Pain, being the middle Saga's top villain, like Perfect Cell was, was written to be this unbelievable character, and now, not only is he no longer considered this unbelievable character, by A. making him weaker than many of the players that are active now, they even made it so that Madara gave him the eyes, rendering him, more of a fluke then anything. Not only that, Rinnegan is barely being used now. Uchihas and thus Sharingan has continuously grown in power, rendering the rinnegan an afterthrought.
Both shows seem obsessed with the theory that, if I just train more, I will continuously grow in power, with no true end in sight, no more rules that govern restrictions, no more anything. By the end of Naruto, we will see folks like Hinata and Sakura probably be more powerful than Zabuza, in the same way the Krillin, Tenshihan, and Piccolo was more powerful than any of the Saiya-jins other than Goku, Vegita and their family, and also more powerful than Freeza. I know for sure Piccolo was, but we even see Tenshihan do some damage to Super Buu, when back in the Cell days. you had guys like Krillin hitting Cell and he didn't even realize Krillin was hitting him.
Oh and Naruto even adopted the DBZ trend of taking like 25 episodes to begin the major fight and then take another 30 episodes to get tot the conclussion of the fight. Going from getting a great balance in season 1, to How long has this "WAR" beeing going on now??? It's never ending. I know it is one big rant, but please tell me, someone else here also noticed what I'm talking about.
