★♥Basic Animation - Smoke Effect (The cheating way)♥★
(Time - 10 minutes)

I call it cheating because we will be using a animated smoke GIF that has already been made.
*It is possible to make your own smoke, try searching Google for great tutorials on how to.*

Here is the Smoke GIF we'll be using.

Go ahead and chop it, rotate it, resize it, whatever you need to do. Just make sure you put it in a group before transferring it to the desired image. (I will tell you how in this tutorial.)

First thing I am going to to do is resize the smoke GIF to fit on my Deathbat background better.

Go to Layer Tab>Image Size

Resize it to whatever will work for your image. But be careful making it too large, it will lose its quality.

I did this.

Next we are going to group the layers together.

PRESS AND HOLD CTRL+ALT AND PRESS A
This will select all of the layers in your layer window.

WITH ALL LAYERS HIGHLIGHTED PRESS AND HOLD CTRL AND PRESS G
This will group of the layers together so we can transfer them onto our background.

Now that is done grab your move tool from your toolbar. (Press "V") transfer the smoke GIF unto the background and align it as needed.

Now it is time to add the animation.

Go ahead and change the time of the first frame to 0.16, and make 7 more frames.

Every frame should have the same numbered smoke layer visible. Example frame 2, smoke layer 2 visible, frame 5, smoke layer 5 visible.

Once you have all of your frames set right with layers it should look like this.

*Optional*

I'm going to duplicate the smoke GIF group and rotate it so that it is evenly on both sides.

To do this first go to Layer Tab>Duplicate Group

With the second group high lighted on your Layer Toolbar

Go to Edit Tab>Transform>Flip Horizontal

Then add the animation the same as you did with the first group. Frame 2, layer 2 visible etc..

*Useful Tips*

You can as many groups of smoke as you want.

It is possible to change the color of this smoke, I would suggest doing it before merging the layers together into a group. Add a gradient map. (Of whichever color you are changing the smoke to.) And set it to soft light, or hard overlay on your layer toolbar, then use the "Flatten Frames into Layers" option from the drop down menu on your
