Photoshop Question

I make avatars and I have some questions about the settings that pop up when you open up a new canvas (the ones I've highlighted).

You must be registered for see images

Should I be entering certain settings when making an avatar? What do you guys use? I've never really messed around with these settings, so I'm just curious. All I do is enter the dimensions I want.

When I had photoshop I always used default unless otherwise specified. Awesome sig, by the way.
