This Months Theme is - Purple

This contest is designed so as to bring Narutobase and Real life together. To achieve this feat, the contestants must enter each month with photos, taken by them, which will have to relate to a given generic theme and also have some "NB Proof"; something visible in the photo, made by the user, that makes it clear the photo is related to NB. Although now, the photography taken by the contestants which goes to the next stage of voting does not need to contain NB proof but rather extra photographs taken by the participants as to prove authenticity of the ''main'' photography. The overall themes given are broad but you can choose to show how far NB goes in the globe, where you log on NB or simply find a normal, every day scene of your life, and introduce NB somewhere. Photography is all about capturing the moment and showcasing what it represents by using a simple still image. It needs to be appealing visually yes but that doesn't mean high end technology or highly digitally edited photographs, so you don't need to go all out into semi or professional photography level pictures.

  • You can enter with one photo which will proceed to the voting stage however you have to take another two or three with NB proof on them (one supporting picture with NB proof is okay as well). The other photos should be similar to the main one, just taken from a different angle as well as with addition of the NB proof. However, there is also another option: Users will have the option to submit one picture with the NB proof on them, which will proceed to voting (note that this image doesn't have to be supported with other pictures)
  • Photos must have been taken by you.
  • The contest will be open for submissions for 3 weeks minimum.
  • You can use any device capable of taking photos such as Cellphones, Cameras, DSLR Cameras, etc.
  • Photos must have been uploaded into a 3rd party photo hosting site such as Imgur.
  • Photos need to abide by the global rules of NB (no cursing, no foul language, no adult content, etc).
  • You cannot submit photos of yourself and photos of people may only be used if you are taking a picture of a public scene.
  • All photos that are submitted in the submission thread and that follow the rules will be put to voting.
  • Voting will last for a week minimum.
  • Participants cannot vote for themselves with their main or an alt account.
  • One submission for each member.
  • No suggestive pics either and no bikini and underwear pics. Keep it clean and according to the rules.

It's just one more week, folks. If I don't get any submissions, the contest won't be extended but cancelled for this month. If I get only one submission it wins by default.

At least find an egg plant or cauliflower in your local market place if you cannot find a flower, leaf, dress, sky, shoes, socks, nail paints, fruits, ice cream, drinks, car, or the likes in the shades of this colour.

Can I put a purple filter on a photo I take?

Err.. Lens filter are fitted over the camera lens and it's not an after process like Photoshop. I have something like this in mind:

So we can edit our photo's with Photoshop if we would like? I was asking because their was a rule against using Photoshop in the Art of the month contest, so I thought there would be a rule like that here.

No. I meant that if you are not using camera lens filters simply find a normal purple object. But now that I'm rethinking it, I am retracting allowing the lens filters too. Thank you for pointing out how confusing it can be and that perhaps the other person also meant PS only and not lens filters.

Sorry for the confusion but nope.

I always went by that photoshop edits as changes to highlights/curves/vibrance and saturation and similar were alowed. They are minor tweaks; however is it allowed now or no?

This will especially apply when shooting in raw format O_O

I tried to check the rules and I didn't find anything specific ( if there was, I missed it and only other hosts I can find right now to ask or discuss for this contest is you :p). So I will go by what I feel about it at the moment-

Minor tweaks like that shouldn't matter much( around 5%), unless you are going for heavy editing like stuff from the image. Meaning the photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the contest entrant. Because ultimately it comes down to the subject in your image and how well you were able to capture the moment itself.

Just don't bother editing the original NB proof image. So if there is an issue, one can always refer to it for ruling out excessive manipulation.

Yeah Ira's right.. you're allowed to do small lighting adjustments etc. but don't add or remove any elements using Photoshop or other photomanipulation software.

Hello to All,

Glad to see people are still active in this competition and having good discussions.

just wanted to give my thoughts here after reading the thread,

A- Filters

1) Color Filters (Through Photoshop)
2) Lens Filters (Physical filters applied on lens)

For me using those 2 methods should be invalid, because they both gonna kill the purpose of theme O_O
its pretty foolish if you think, for themes like purple or any other color you have to show any element which represents that color. It doesn't mean that the whole or half picture should be in purple tone.

Who are going to apply filter by any means for them, this theme is a open/free theme completely, like they can shoot any thing and then they can just apply the purple filter, remember this is the same if you even put filter on lens, by doing this you don't need to find any purple element and you can take any picture you want.

B- PS Editing!

All general editing is allowed,
photo manipulation strictly not allowed, you can't add or delete any element through PS, even merging two 2 different images are not allowed. However merging 2 same images with different exposure will work for creating HDR.

I think only these 2 issues were discussed,

I hope this might clear up some confusions.

Thanks.
