Trying out something new to get some new perspective on some topics, thought this wouldn't be such a bad idea :D

So, in this thread, I'd like for you to define what the "perfect friendship" is.

Now, when I first thought about this. I thought that the perfect friendship would be based off of mutual benefician, because I believe humans are selfish and do everything for their own benefit, whether you accept that consciously or not is dependent upon you. But anyway, back to the topic. Then after thinking about it more, I think I'm wrong. A perfect friendship in my opinion is one where you can learn and grow from one another, whether it be through great times or times of hardship, as they say "through the thick and thin." Basically, I suppose. Any friendship could be the perfect friendship, as long as their committed to each other and wouldn't leave each others sides no matter what, heh.. Although, I guess that's what makes true friendships so great xD.

I mean, obviously you could argue this with me, and I encourage it. I want to see what you have to say about this :D Sorry if this stuff sort of doesn't make sense, making it up as I go >.>

Personally, I don't really trust anyone.

But I guess a Perfect Friendship is something along the lines of what you said.
In my opinion, perfection is one of those things that humanity strives to obtain but not realising that it doesn't exist, maybe it would if it wasn't for the greed within us all. That being said, I don't think that there is such a thing as a Perfect Friendship. At best, you can establish a strong bond of trust with another person but perfection ain't happening.

Cell fucked up chasing after that illusion.

I truly do believe in it!
My dad used to always tell me that through life and all that, in the end you could barely count your real friends on one hand. if your lucky, you can count on both hands. And i agree with it, because it is hard to keep and grow friendships.
School friends don't usually last long. You hang out, have fun, thats it thats all. You graduate and everyone goes on separate ways. People get busy with their life, they do their own things and forget about you.
It is only when you go through hardships that you know who is really there for you and who are the real friends. Then again, it is mutual and if you dont trust no one and not willing to open up, then no one will really trust you back and be real with you.

I guess if i had to define perfect friendship... well it's like true love. You accept the person for who they are and you love them as they are. Through good and bad you are together and always be honest. A real true friend would kick your ass and tell you straight up in your face when they think your going on a wrong way, but they would still love you just the same. Real friends want the best for you. they dont try to avoid the issues, go around it and tell you lies just to please you.

I think life on earth would be pretty meaningless without friends. true friends i mean.
family ties are forever. friends might not be forever. lovers even less.
but through all these you find your own existence and choose the ppl you want to be in your life. The best thing you can do is try to make the best choices and surround yourself with good people. Cherish them, keep them, love them, and care for them.

I don't trust anyone. I have a few good friends, but I still only trust any of them to a certain extent. The only person in the world I trust at all is my mom, and even that is limited. I don't need to live for anyone but myself.

Perfect is non-existent. Your question can be rephrased as "what is the most ultimate form of Friendship"

Abysmal and McChickenEater have highlighted one crucial point which I think is the foundation of friendship; Trust.

Complete trust could be a trait of such sorts of friendships, but such Trust would not exist till time goes by, or some life threatening situation shows how true the friendship Really is.

So you're basically saying that the "perfect" friendship can really only be realized through time or life threatening situation?

It's a shame that some people are too afraid to open up their emotions enough as to trust another individual, which isn't only potentially taking away from your experience, but someone elses experience as well. It's pretty selfish if you really think about it.

i have a few good friends but i only trust the most on one, he is my best friend mostly because i know him since i was like 3 years old. but the other friends i have i only trust to some extent i can't tell them secrets or important shit because they can tell to someone so i only trust completely on one friend.

Perfect friendship: A perfect friendship doesn't exist as others above me have stated.

I believe what you are referring to is a type of friendship that is unbreakable and incomparable to any other.
I believe that kind of friendship exists but it takes a long time to achieve that status,

I actually wasn't "referring" to anything. :3

I put out a question, asking you to define what a perfect friendship to be, it was more of a thinking question rather than a practical question. But nonetheless, you answered a respectable response and I agree with your opinion on what an unbreakable friendship needs. That and trust.

Maybe it would exist if Altruism also did but that's not the case.

Well, you can argue that sometimes we put other people before ourselves, whether it be an everyday thing like who gets the last basketball for gym class :3. Or who gets VIP concert tickets to their favourite band (Lol bad example xD) But either way, maybe being concerned about the welfare of others does exist, but just.. not on such a high scale as we'd like.

In my opinion, I do not think that a perfect friendship can exist in this world. Why? Because people make mistakes. They lie, they cheat, they destroy. In a world that is imperfect, how can people believe in perfection? However, true friendship lies at the heart of all these things. The ability to trust someone despite his or her... imperfections can be a genuine friendship.

The fact that you can see through the bad things in a person and only judge them based upon the pureness in their heart is a talent I wish I had. Of course no one's perfect, it's a simple fact that was never proved false and never will be proved false. Everyone has flaws, and people can exploit those flaws. So if you can look past that, it's close enough to perfection for me personally to acknowledge them as superior in the subject of friendship.

I guess that too makes perfect sense. However, one should also know the difference between making an honest mistake and deliberately just hurting you for the fun of it.

What has life thought me so far, is that every friendship has limits. I admit, I enjoy watching those unbreakable friendships in Naruto and other mangas. I wanna believe in such camaraderie, but I have yet to experience it in RL.
