Alright, i just realized that at least three of the Strawhats have people they want to surpass:

- Luffy wants to surpass Shanks
- Zoro wants to surpass Mihawk
- Usopp wants to be like his father, I'm assuming that he will surpass him by the end

The others don't have clear goals on who they want to surpass, but we could still come up with analogies between them and stronger characters.

Example:

- Franky could surpass Vegapunk or his ultimate weapon: PX-0 (Kuma)

What other analogies can you guys come up with?

I guess you could say Sanji wants to surpass Zeff in a way...

Same for Chopper and Kureha/Hililuk..

Well...Sanji doesn't exactly want to surpass anyone...his goal is to find All Blue. The only other person that desires to surpass someone besides Luffy and Zoro would have to be Usopp. His specialty puts him at conflict with snipers from other crews, particularly the one from Blackbeard's crew.

Brook just want to meet laboon again, if kimbei join i don't what he would want, so yeah basically the ones that have a person to surpass are luffy, zoro and usopp.

I find that that whole 'surpassing' stuff something for Naruto and doesn't fit well with OP. The only Strawhat it truly applies to is Zoro, who clearly stated he wanted to surpass Mihawk to become the world's greatest swordsman, but for most of the others it's not really relevant.

I mean Luffy doesn't say anywhere he wants to surpass Shanks nor is it something that lies in his nature. Yes if Luffy would succeed in becoming the Pirate King he did something Shanks wasn't able to achieve and in a certain way you could say he 'surpassed' Shanks. However Luffy's goal has never been to surpass Shanks, Luffy just wanted to go on an adventure with his nakama and surpassing someone has never been on his mind.

Pretty much the same applies to Usopp, it's not that he left to surpass his father. Even if he does that, that wasn't his primary objective.

Also how is this a theory exactly? This is a discussion.

I reckon Shanks could be PK but he just doesn't want to be. He's more like the guardian of Raftel. Because he was part of the PK's crew and he proobably does know where it is but he doesn't care for it.

Exactly. Plus Ussop wants to be a warrior of the sea and he has moved a huge step closer to what he wants to be...Look what happened last chapter , what a boss.

Luffy said he'd find a crew that would beat Shanks'. I guess it's close to Luffy saying he'll beat Shanks

That was something he said when he was little as far as I remember in response of Shanks not taking Luffy with him. Luffy didn't became a pirate nor wants to become the Pirate King solely to surpass Shanks.
