There IS NO Naruto story without this guy, him and Madara tie for main villain IMO as one is the central villain and the other is the Mastermind, but screentime wise and MC relation go all the way to Obito, yet it pisses me off that people just say that his character sucks and talk sh*t because of the Rin BS, lets face it Kishi had to give a plausible explanation to why this hero who was Kakashi's friend was the masked man, and I guess he couldnt find a better thing to come up with, sure it was annoying as hell to see all the flashbacks and how much he thinks about her 20 years later, but that is Kishi's way of saying that his heart is left behind, there is so much symbolism with Obito, the day he watched Rin die is the day he went 180 and abandoned himself.
Yes him hiding behind the mask and carrying the message of Madara brought more terror as nobody knew who the f*ck this 14 year old kid (at the beginning of when he started making moves he was about 14) thats f*ckin everything up was, but he also took the role as Madara's successor with the whole mask and everything because he left everything behind and just chose to walk on Madara's path. But as he met Naruto he starts slowly regretting abandoning his former self seeing as how he and Naruto were similar and how Naruto took the whole hard road thing etc. IMO he is a well written character, with the exception of Kishi always has to be cheesy about something such as Naruto's FRIENDSHIP BS and Gaara's obsession with Naruto, Sasuke's memories of Itachi, Naruto's obsession with Sasuke, etc and Obito got his lil BS with his obsession with Rin, since thats apparently how Kishi has to portray every good guy they have to show extreme affection towards someone.
But unfortunately a good bunch of the fanbase are simple-minded and are just like LOL PEDOBITO HE STARTED A WAR CUZ OF RIN WORST VILLAIN EVER, overlooking all the things he accomplished as a villain in Naruto (which Im about to list) just because theres something "pathetic" about the character. And then there are those who think that once the mask broke he started falling off, WRONG, if you havent noticed his demeanor and attitude was the exact right after the mask broke, its when he started becoming the Juubi Jin, when he oppose Madara, his moments with kakashi, and the post TNJ Obito, is when he starts regaining some of that child Obito's traits, and the whole point about the Naruto TNJ scene was to take off the mask and be who he once was, well guess what, he hasnt been that person since he was 13.
How can this guy be a shitty villain? He was a genius, he had alot of knowledge not only that was passed down by Madara and the Zetsus but he had eyes all over the Shinobi world waiting for opportunities to come as he took them one by one. Hes responsible for 90% of the conflict, just a list of things this guy has done that classify him as the central villain:
The beginning, this child literally slaughtered maybe hundreds of men like nothing
Creates the Akatsuki as the man puling the strings behind Nagato
9 Tails attack on Konoha, stopped by Minato
The Mizukage
The Uchiha Clan Massacre, Im almost certain he had a much higher body count than Itachi.
Then he just chills while the Akatsuki do some work, beginning of part 2 he comes back as some goofy new Akatsuki member, the moment he got serious, things heat up
Reveals the truth to Sasuke, causing him to go deeper and deeper in angst
Starts running sh*t, sends Taka after B, and has Pain destroy Konoha for him
Pisses Naruto Off
Declares War
This ****** acting up, dont need her no more
Zetsu army for the war, Kabuto gets credit for the edo army obv
He always has a backup plan, in case he cant take the 8 and 9 tails, he whips out the Mazo on the SA and sneakingly take the tools that have Kuramas chakra in them (gold and silver bros), and he made sure to save that tentacle of Killer B for the 8 tails slot
Kamui and the Strongest Mangekyo Sharingan? Check... Rinnegan? Check... 6 Bijuus and their Jins? Check.
The big reveal, looks even more badass without the mask
Hes the one who summoned the Juubi first
Only one who gets close to breaking Naruto's will, left him in a shock for a moment here
Who could forget this epic fight, which he planned not to win
Breaks off Madara
Faces whole alliance as Juubi Jin, at this tho I admit Madara's performance was better at JJ, and after this point in Naruto Madara takes the spotlight
