Danzo is on a completely different level, lets state that first.

When Danzo admited inferiority to Hiruzen, he didn't have Mokuton, Izanagi and etc (he got that after making bonds with Orochimaru). When he was about to die, he said that Hiruzen was always one step forwards, but he referring to a general "good shinobi" thing, because Hiruzen is in fact a better shinobi than Danzo, but in power terms Hiruzen doesn't even get close to Danzo...

BY FEATS (hype is sh*t , don't bring that up)

-Danzo fooled the 5 kages and Mifune with Genjutsu
-He kept up with Sasuke in speed, who is in fact really fast
-He has one of the best summons.
-Great at using wind Ninjutsu, being able to enhace wind to his weapons
-Izanagi... Well this makes him inmortal for 10 minutes
-He was able to stop a susano arrow with Mokuton
-He was able to easely see trough and MS user's genjutsu in an instant
-A genius of sealing, being able to seal sasuke's whole body with just a touch on his neck

Hiruzen is strong, don't get me wrong, but please don't compare him to Danzo, who is clearly stronger
