Religion should not be an excuse to commit rape, murder, random acts of pure stupidity, etc. People like that are the people who give religion a bad name and christianity gets the worst of it because most of the people who do these things claim to be "christian". I am very aware, YowYan, that your post is not meant to offend christianity. Nobody is pointing the finger at you. People are just disgusted at the fact that someone tried to get away with their disgusting crimes by saying "God told me to", a pastor at that.

Well christians and muslims get the worst of it, in my opinion.

This story does kind of illustrate how religion can make people delusional and do crazy shit.

"A man who probably existed thousands of years ago but never performed any miracles told this guy to have *** with an underage girl? What a disgrace to religion! MY Jesus only told me to love and support everyone."

Now I get that the bible said nothing about having *** with underage girls. Of course. No one's debating that. However, the response people have to this could be seen as part of the "No true Scotsman" fallacy. He was a Christian, and he committed a pretty gross crime. Yet the response by fellow Christians is "well he's not a TRUE Christian."

This assertion is completely arbitrary. The definition of a "true Christian" could therefore vary between people. Some people, such as this man, could say that being a true Christian would consist of having *** with an underage girl. Some would say that denying gay citizens marriage rights or protesting abortions would be what a "true Christian" does. And some would say the opposite. What this shows is that no one can really agree on what the definition of a Christian is. So anyone who calls themselves a part of their religion, yet does something they dislike, they will try and distance themselves from them.

The important thing to note is the causation of this crime. The pastor here truly believed God/Jesus were telling him to do this. It's his religiously-stemmed delusional mindset that gave made this happen.
