Part One Hints for Itachi's Plot Twist

Even as a young child I saw most of it coming. It just takes a bit of observation. But most of us were just watching at the time for the fighting and didn't take notice of clever characterization like this. I wasn't surprised when I read or watched the Itachi vs Sasuke fight at all. But nonetheless, good thread Chie. I expect nothing less from you.

Fantastic thread as always. The one that gave away Itachi's true goals for me(when reading the manga the first time) was when he didn't kill Kakashi when he could have. But you just posted more hints about Itachi's true goals than I thought there was in the manga. Nice.

I really irks me when people say that Itachi's goodness was retconed...

It's evidently not retcon.

I wouldn't take anyone seriously who claims that. Not for their opinion on the Naruto series, nor literature in general.

At least most don't say that. Lol

To be honest, i had no idea Itachi was actually not an antagonist. He did strike me as surprisingly humble and sometimes merciful, but that was pretty much it. As soon as i read ''He slaughtered the clan... and it was all on Konoha's orders'' i think my heart skipped a beat. Didn't expect it at all, and it made the experience that much better.

(In my defense, i was younger and dumber back then, didn't really look for hints in manga.)

I've rarely seen so much effort put into a thread. Very well done, Chie.

Well, he always was an antagonist when he was alive. He was a main character's (Sasuke's) obstacle to overcome for the entirety of his life. However, it's fine if he didn't strike you as "not a bad guy" prior to the reveal. Glad you liked the reveal though.

Very well done Chie! I love it..

In all honesty, I had at first believed that Itachi had been a mass murderer and a great threat to Sasuke (To the point of being scared of his mention Lol) and even Konoha because of how Sasuke had described Itachi as; massacring the Uchiha and initiating the hatred and revengeful nature in Sasuke, that was- up until Itachi actually made his full appearance towards the end of part 1. Post appearance, I saw him in a total different light and had a feeling that his true ideals might've been for the better of Konoha all along.. I could tell that he was a 'good guy' just under a facade, in flashbacks and towards Naruto as a jin, especially in comparison to the way Kisame acted when trying to capture Naruto.... Itachi seemed more hesitant and humble regarding his clan and the organisation about everything and that made his character stand to differ from what Sasuke was making him out to be.

Either way, Itachi is one really well-thought out character that contributed to the manga greatly.. Just incredible.
