Therefore, you can't see through it via Sharingan, you can't disperse it via the Kai method; the only way to deal with this is to be a sensor like Madara, or have amazing senses like Hiruzen.

This is ridiculous. The Totsuka has only two feats. At first it sealed a giant and immobile target, secondly it sealed a crippled Nagato who was busy dealing with Naruto and Bee while being controlled by Kabuto. Nothing-but really nothing- suggest Hashirama can't react to this overwanked shit.

This requires a hand seal, wheres Itachi must manifest Susano'o to use Totsuka. As for Tsukuyomi; he would've encountered it from Madara - and the fact he never, as far as we know, fell to it means that either he has a counter, or knows not to look in his eye. On the slight chance that he were caught under it, he'd obviously lose.

I'm mainly using Itachi as an example as he's about the strongest non-sensor in the series.

Which Madara? If you are talking about the Rinnegan Madara it would be useless since the Rinnegan is the ultimate dojutsu.

For any reason. EMS is the next stage for the sharingan, it allowed Madara to see through Mokuton Bushin, it's not a stretch to say it helped him defeat this technique too.

Plus Hashirama may not have used it as it seems to affect everyone in the area, as it hit Orochimaru too.
