Premise: Sasuke is my favorite character since i first read the manga. This thread may be seen as biased due to my likings, but i want replies with a degree of logic in them, posts like "hurr durr sauce is shit *sasuke stabbed my madara here*" will be ignored and, in the worst cases, neg repped. This is the first part of Sasuke's analysis topics.

BEFORE THE SERIES

As a child, Sasuke a kind and cheerful individual, full of love towards his parents and older brother (whom he admired like no one), respectful to his fellow clansmen and his teachers. Sasuke always lived in Itachi's shadow, a genius that was acknowledged by the entire clan and by Hiruzen Sarutobi himself, neglected by his father's blind love for his older son. Uncannily, Itachi loved Sasuke and was interested in him, always trying to protect him and to make him stronger. Despite being the best of his accademy class and trying really hard to be noticed by his father (whom was admired by Sasuke and viewed as a model. The kid even wanted to enter the Uchiha police like him), Sasuke was still outshined by Itachi's figure since his progress was always inferior than the latter's. Itachi enstablished a brotherly rivalry between him and his brother, knowing that he was doing his best to stand up to him.

After Shisui's death, Itachi's figure got progressively worse (he was suspected of homicide and the conspiring Uchihas didn't like in the slightest a "leaf's dog") and Fugaku gained a interest in his younger son. When he mastered the Gokakyu no Jutsu, Fugaku finally viewed him as Sasuke, and not as another Itachi, obtaining his father's recognition.

Then that day came. The day when his brother slew his entire clan, his bonds, his friends, his family. Itachi lied to him, told hateful words and told him to cling to his hatred. The figure he admired for his entire life was revealed to be nothing but a lie, to Sasuke's point of view. Imagine it: a 7 year old that needed to face such trauma. He was near the door of madness. But Sasuke couldn't give up (the irony), he needed to fight, he needed revenge. Revenge was the sole purpose of his life, after such trauma and disgrace, Sasuke was so strong that he was capable to obtain another goal. And he was a little kid, with nothing more to love, but with a person to hate.

Naruto himself, as a little kid, was capable of seeing a bit of Sasuke's hate by merely looking in his eyes. Naruto, a boy who also had a terrible life, with a demon inside him, hated by anyone who knew about the Kyuubi, posed himself a question: how could such a kid bear so much hate?

NARUTO - FIRST PART

In part 1, Sasuke was put in team 7 along Naruto, his "rival", and Sakura, a random girl that blindly loved him without really knowing him. Due to his superiority, Sasuke displayed indifference towards others, especially his team mates and the other members of the academy. He was unwilling to cooperate with anyone that was weaker than him, especially Sakura and Naruto. Even after 5 years, he was still obsessed by revenge (which didn't surprise Kakashi), eternally trying to kill his older brother. During the wave arc, Sasuke grew a friendly bond with Naruto, and started to consider him as a rival (which Naruto always did since he first met him). But the big change was when he fought Haku alongside his friend: he put his life in severe danger, and when near to death, entrusted his dream (killing Itachi) to Naruto, ultimately viewing him as a close friend after years of nothing but hate. Soon, he grew jealous of Naruto's growth: unlike him, who trained for his entire life, Naruto trained way less and achieved way better results. He was amazed of the power of the boy, until years later, when he found where that power came from. His "real he" slowly came out, replacing the empty shell of his former self that he was.

But the good times didn't last long: while Sasuke momentarily lost his desire of revenge, his meeting with the newfound Orochimaru (who mentioned Itachi several times, reminding the guy of his real dream) and obtaining the Cursed Seal reminded the very purpose of his life: gain more and more power by himself, to kill the wretched brother of his. Naruto and the others were discarded again, power was the only thing he wanted. And he shows his hateful nature of the poor ninjas Orochimaru sent to death: intending to kill them slowly and painfully, Sakura stops him, by reminding him of his real self. Later, Kakashi will seal the CS with Sasuke's consensus, determined to grow with his own powers. Only later will Sasuke awaken it again (againts Gaara), only to make him realize that Naruto grew miracolously stronger than him in a really short span of time.

But the worst didn't came until later: Sasuke came to know that Itachi was in Konoha, searching for Naruto Uzumaki. He arrived before Jiraiya, facing his brother and the partner, Kisame, years after the massacre. Blinded by his own hatred, Sasuke desperately tried to face Itachi (after the latter ignored him, asserting that he wasn't interested in him in the slightest), only to be severely injured and incapacitated by Tsukuyomi, making him fall into a coma. He falls again in the Curse of Hatred, way deeper than before, with his inferiority complexes to further aggravate things. His former self sinks into darkness, only to be lost forever and replaced by Sasuke Uchiha, the avenger.

Sasuke engages in a fight with Naruto: his hate for Itachi is directed to Naruto, the center of his jealously. How could such a weakling have grown so strong in a little time? How can a guy no one likes, be stronger than the last of the Uchiha? This questions ring in Sasuke's mind, unanswered by nothing but fighting. After being interrupted, Sasuke founds out that Naruto has truly grown strong, maybe stronger than him afterall. All of his efforts are nullified by someone who did better than him, his pride is gone. Kakashi then lectures him: Chidori wasn't taught to be used againts a friend. But is Naruto a friend? Are Konoha ninjas his friends? He gets his answers when Sakon, the captain of Sound 4, shows him the power of the CS, the power that he can obtain, the power that he will get if he joins Orochimaru. He realizes that his revenge won't be done if he stays to Konoha.

The moment of his departure he is seen by Sakura, who confronts and confess her pure love to him. But how could he, an avenger, make friends, let alone love someone? He knows that the moments with Team 7 were good ones, but his life doesn't have space anymore for time spent in that kind. He incapacitates her, before thanking her for the first an the last time in the entire manga.

It's at the Valley of The End, where the previous transmigrants fought, that Sasuke fights Naruto for the last time. A fight of wills, more than a real battle. Naruto doesn't want to lose his friends, but Sasuke inevitably will cut his bonds to pursue his life goal. His former friend tells him that he understands him, but the Uchiha replies that he could never understand him. The life of Sasuke is a life of loss, he lost everything in his life, including his former self. Naruto, instead, had nothing from the beginning, meaning he can't experience the same pain of Sasuke, and he never will on such magnitude. Sasuke hates, Naruto is hated. Two completely different things, and Naruto will realize that in Shippuden. When the Indra transmigrant defeats the Ashura's one, he comes to a conclusion: he will not walk the same path of Itachi. He will not kill his most loved person (and Naruto isn't his most loved person, but Sasuke didn't knew it yet, or rather, he didn't want to knew it) to awaken the Mangekyou. He will walk his own path, leaving the Leaf behind. He will give his body to the devil himself in order to complete his revenge.

This is the end of the analysis. As i have shown, Sasuke's descent into darkness is slow and graduate, yet logical and comprehensible. He isn't a ripoff of any sort, nor a bad character. Stop with the hate, and view a character with an objective view, rather than a biased one. This isn't the end, i will write another topic for the Shippuden part, maybe other topics for other characters. Hope you had a good read.

Yeah but I like Naruto's character development better.
I just started hating it when he started riding Sasuke's D about coming back to Konoha.[SUB]

Amazing thread man but this base has gone to the dogs where trolls thread receive more recognition than Analysis threads like this.
Plus once your A Sasuke fan the Narutards would automatically try to derail your thread whether it was good thread or not.
Example above.

Nice analysis!

The only thing I would disagree with is this:
Soon, he grew jealous of Naruto's growth: unlike him, who trained for his entire life, Naruto trained way less and achieved way better results.
I wouldn't say that Naruto trained less than Sasuke. Remember that both were training to become ninjas from a very young age; Sasuke to impress his father and reach his brother's level, and Naruto to be acknowledged/Hokage.

Sasuke trained hard to master Lee's speed and the Chidori while Naruto learned to access Kurama's chakra and the summoning jutsu. Naruto was sent to the hospital for chakra exhaustion after first summoning Gamabunta, as well as falling unconscious from chakra exhaustion when he was trying to win the bet with Tsunade. Sasuke simply felt that he wasn't progressing fast enough compared to Naruto, who started out weaker than Sasuke in early Part 1. This undermined his own progress from his perspective, and he began to feel jealous of Naruto.

Edit: Naruto riding on Gamabunta was only in the Anime. My bad lol

I was actually talking about their training prior to the series. While Sasuke trained for 5 years desperately, Naruto didn't but closed the gap between them and became stronger in less than a year. So obviously he was jealous and frustrated.

Naruto was easily Sasuke's most loved person in part 1.

Actually Itachi's was the most loved person of Sasuke in his entire life (proved by him awakening MS), it's just that the hate blinded him and warped his figure and Itachi's memories (which was Itachi's intent anyway), effectively making Naruto the person he cared the most, but not really. Sasuke even admitted that he was his best friend (and actually thought that by killing him he would awaken MS) but the bond of hate (and of consequence, love) with Itachi was even stronger. The real Itachi, not the figure he interpreted, was his closest bond. Sasuke just replaced him with Naruto.

No, Sasuke hated Itachi in part 1. What memory of Itachi would change the fact that he killed his clan?

Also Itachi told Sasuke to hate him, and kill him, and he did.

Yeah, because his image of Itachi was the one that Itachi wanted him to believe. Sasuke still cared in deepth about his brother, and that was confirmed when Itachi died, reminding him of the real Itachi. Naruto was yes, his best bond in P1. But his real bond was Itachi, we are saying the same thing. Sasuke cared the most about the Itachi that didn't massacre the Uchiha, and hated him for most of P1 and 2 due to slaughter.
