It seems to me that both Gaiden and the Boruto movie have the same theme: coming into terms with your parents. In gaiden shin is called "the father". The children are his clones. In chapter 9 they tried to kill kim because he showed no love for them-which Sakura explained before.
Also, we all know of the Sarada dna soap going on. She is coming into terms with her father and her real mother. I dont think gaiden is being taken serisouly by kishimoto. If he did, he would not make the villain shin a hopeless case. Again, the parent theme.
With Boruto its the same thing, coming into terms with his father. I thought before that Naruto would have to die for him to realize how much his father loves him. But, I now think that in the movie, the villains will also have some family issue. Who knows, maybe they are out for revenge for the sealing of Kaguya. Maybe she was their sister. Who knows.
But, It seems that kishimoto is not taking things seriously. There is no danger like madara and obito. It feels like he is being lazy and wants to end things quickly.
