I find his design to be quite awesome, too. Everything in him just fits his character as a villain, besides his Rennigan actually looked cool on him, not to mention the voice actor that just added to his epicness.
On a side note, i think that the artwork in that arc was top notch and what made Pain look more awesome than he was already. (Except for some episodes of course Lol)
