Pain was not one ninja. He was 6 ninjas controlled by Naruto. All 6 would have easily stopped Gai and company before they could take him out completely. If you want to throw in either of the Brows using EIG, then they could have a chance, but Neji's attacks could easily be drained, and most would get solo'd by ST, CT, or the weapon path.

He should be lucky that he didn't call Choji fat.

Yeah right, Kakashi later on warps a needle so fast that pain didn't even notice with both his rinnegans. And then he warps a distant missile to save Choji. His precision and skill with it clearly improved. Why wouldn't you not go in with the Mangekyou when facing the Rinnegan.

Kakashi was standing inches next to pain when they first enhanced each other. He could've ripped his head off easier than when he ripped Deidara's arm off.

Then you have jiraya who was in sage mode and had two toad sages on his shoulders. Should've sensed pain sneak up behind him. Again, plot intervened.

actually chouji was saved by plot, not nagato.

nagato (deva path ) cant just be killed by Kamui. kakshi also had the problem of inefficicency so chouji ewas saved by plot.
