One of Kishi's regrets was that he didn't take the time to develop the dynamic of the original story and the characters. Like showing their bonds and what not. His style of writing was great and fast paced, but there were so many holes on a personal level that the build up to end and some of the relationships in Boruto just didn't/don't quite make much sense. I mean we never saw Sasuke and Naruto bond much as friends. We never saw a romance bud between Sasuke and Sakura (which he regrets I believe).. Which made the whole plot of shippuden seem weird. Like it made Sakura and Naruto look obsessed for real no reason over a teammate they hardly spent personal time with outside of the few missions we saw and the exams. He tried to fudge Naruto and Hinata with The Last.. which half worked. And to be honest all of K11 as a whole just didn't seem super bonded outside of their 3 man squads..
Whereas in Boruto, especially the anime, we see that the new K11(I think there's 11 lmao) have been shown since the academy days and now the new team 7 has been shown more, with a focus on bonds and teamwork. It makes the pacing hard to manage because the writer is trying to give us enough material and buildup before the main story goes into full swing (we are JUST starting to get into Kara these last few chapters). It's a pain, but I get why it's being done. The only gripe I have is that I wish he'd give Sarada her shorts back lol. It's not a huge distraction, but I just liked Kishi's design of her better.
