I'm a bit confused as to how this jutsu works. I know Nagato used to sacrifice himself to revive everyone who died during his invasion of Konoha. However, Black Zetsu forced Obito to use the same jutsu to revice Madara, but he didn't die right after. Why is this?

Also, would it have been possible for Sasuke to use this jutsu to bring back those who died in the war? If so, what would you all think of an ending where that happens?

Nagato died because he was already out of chakra and used the rest of it to summon +1000 shinobi, if he had only summoned one it would have been a different story.

Also, Nagato was expected to die because he wasn't the original owner of the Rinnegan and he didn't have any of Ashura's cells to help him unlike Obito so the toll the jutsu took on his body was far greater. And Obito had the Gedo's life force.

As the original owner of Rinnegan and due to syncing with the Gedo, Madara would have survived if he used Rinne Tensei.

Regarding Sasuke, he doesn't need the statue because he has the same eye power as Kaguya, if he used it I think he would only lose his tomoe for a considerable amount of time like when he used Kaguya's space-time technique.

I think that, if Given enough chakra, it can be done without adverse effects. However, as much as Neji was one of my favorite characters, and should have bedded Tenten, it would've been anticlimactic.
