Bolt doesn't even acknowledge Salad's existence. I doubt they are going to be rivals, more like close friends at least. Considering who their parents are, I doubt it in the least if Salad becomes pairing fodder for Boruto. Seems highly possibly from Kishimoto's work.

Bolt will probably find someone on his level and when I mean on his level, I mean a male who he sees as someone better than him, or whom the male counterpart sees Boruto as someone to be admired. It all depends on how it happens, but I doubt a rivalry is what Kishimoto is going after.

It seems like he wants to pursue the connection of Boruto/Salad as a friendship which connect them by Naruto/Sasuke. Or at least that's what I am assuming.

"Uselessness" is not genetic. Not to mention that Sakura healed many shinobi during the war, gave Obito the chakara needed to save Sasuke from Kaguya's dimension, kept Naruto alive when Kurama got extracted, and punched Kaguya (something that Sasuke failed to do after repeated attempts). She is far from useless. She was only useless in part 1.

If Kishi goes my route, Sarada won't just be Boruto's rival, she will be much more than he can handle.

Don't be quick to assume she is pairing fodder, she is Sasuke's daughter after all.

People also forget that Sarada wasn't observing Boruto out of admiration, she called him stupid, she seems very smart with a bold personality. Lol

On topic of the thread: It would be best in my opinion to keep it between Bolt and Sarada. Lee's kid would be an acceptable rival too, but I really do not want it to be some random kid that doesn't relate to any of the old Konoha 11. I am fine when a show changes the main characters, but for me the new mains at least have to relate and not feel out of place. Example: Had Akira Toriyama (of DBZ) actually gone through with the plan to make Goten the main character starting with the Majin Buu saga, that would have been fine with me because he is Goku's son. Even if Trunks was the main character that would have been cool because he is the son of Vegeta (the main rival). However, I could not get into it if they picked some totally random new person that doesn't relate at all to the previous cast like Tien's 2nd cousin's uncle's neighbor.

That reason is actually why I couldn't get into The Legend of Korra (that and the guys in the new team avatar all looked the same to me. I couldn't tell them apart)

For these reasons, I think the rival should stick to being Sarada or Lee's kid (as homage to the Lee vs. Neji rivalry), and not some random hyuuga or some other random fodder. Also, to the people saying Chocho or Shikadai, Shikadai seems to lazy to be competitive (like his father) and Chocho seems to care more about food than training or competing (like her father). Neither of them are the rival type. Neither is Inojin, who seems more reserved like Sai.

Bolt/Sarada or Bolt/Lee's kid are the best bets in my opinion.

Mirai (Asuma/Kurenai's daughter) is too old to be Bolt's rival. People mistakenly think that Mirai is apart of the same age group as Bolt. Here is the thing: Mirai was born at some point between Pain's invasion and the start of the war. Bolt's group was born some years after the events of "The Last", and The Last itself was already 2 years after the war. In short, Mirai >> Bolt in age. Plus they are nowhere near the same status. Bolt is an academy student. Mirai is at least a chunin if not a jonin, considering that she was wearing a chunin or jonin flak jacket and had the mission of escorting Kakashi (the 6th hokage) and Guy. Escorting a hokage is not exactly the mission that an academy student or a genin gets.
