Orochimaru is not known for lying or hiding his intentions, and i know what your thinking hes a snake hes sneaky.. no hes not..
1. when he fought the 3rd he told him he hated what it meant to be a shinobi. dying for something...and he wanted to prove to the 3rd it wasnt worth it.. i think he was more spiteful than anything in that situation he was challenging his beliefs against his teachers which is the opposite of his. so he mae him fight the ppl who taught him.
2. He told Sasuke i want your body and ima take it from you when im ready.. he told the truth and right before he was ready sasuke attacked him.
notice how he is speaking in a room full of distinguished kages. he says destroying the leaf is not my plan hes telling them where they went wrong and the 1st hokage agrees with alot of thing hes saying, and even tho the 1st broke the edo tensei he says "orochimaru dont worry ill free the boy from the ill feelings restrainig him"
I understand Orochimaru wants to survive madaras wrath too but i think he wants to see how sasuke deals with the issue of dying for something like a village.. Orochimaru doesnt agree with what they made Itachi do.. and i think he wants to see what the father of this belief system that sasuke cant grasp and he himself doesnt belive in will say
