Didn't he have to keep switching bodies in order for him to stay immortal?

Because if this is true, then why would he want Sasuke's body?
I mean it would just end up becoming a waste, wouldn't it?

Or am I completely wrong on how why he keeps switching bodies?

Because he would have the Sharingan at his disposal. With oro's knowledge and the Sharingan. He'd be unstoppable.

I think he would retain the Sharingan after he took Sasuke's body and switched to another one.

Only explanation I can think of.

But it wouldn't be permanent would it? I mean wouldn't he eventually have to switch bodies again?

Youre right about how oro switches bodies but sasuke & kimimaro are different.

Their seals are the strongest out of the seals & if oro were to steal one of their bodies then he would have immortality forever [correct me if I'm wrong], & the sharingan is an added bonus.

Even if the body of sasuke died, orochimaru would use the eyes and transfer them to the following bodies.

So the amount of time he can spend in ones body is determined by how strong the cursed seal is? That would answer my question.
Can you please show me the scan that explains it?

@Sir Blades of Chaos

What would be the point of getting the body then? Why didn't he just take Sasuke's eyes instead trying to take him over.

My guess is that Sasuke's seal is stronger than the others resulting in Oro being able to stay withen sasuke for a longer period of time.

Maybe the real question is whether he wanted Sasuke to gain strength for himself or to further advance his studies. According to Kabuto, Orochimaru tried to learn Sage Mode but did not have an appropriate body. Maybe he wanted that body to help him get closer to the Sage. Remember that he wants to research ninjutsu and continue his studies. Perhaps it is not power but the windows opened by a powerful Uchiha that he sought after...

But as for your question I guess the few possibilities are:
1) He didn't NEED him for an extended period of time, but for something temporary (like his research or a specific goal)
2) The limit didn't apply to him for whatever reason

Orochimaru's true goal isn't clear yet and it seems he's still after Sasuke's body, so maybe it will be explained.

That's a really interesting and possible answer. I like it.

But wouldn't his achievements go away along with the body? I mean if it was required.

It would be cool if his true motive were explained, but i wonder of there would be enough time.

Well I think it really depends on what he needs it for. Like I said it might not be as simple as gaining some cool Sharingan abilities. I mean this is a leap of fiction so the possibilities are endless... perhaps he wanted the fruit from the Juubi tree? Maybe he found a way to advance the Sharingan into the Rinnegan, which would definitely expand his knowledge on jutsu (Kabuto gives Orochimaru some credit for research here)

Heck what if he just ditched bodies all together and he became something of a god in his white snake form with a power up? To be honest I just don't have enough information to know x_x

... Ok. Theory was ok, but I feel that it needs more proof in order to convince me.

I was thinking that he wanted Sasuke's body in order to become like the sage, like you said, but then i started thinking of how he needed to switch bodies. Maybe he knows a way to negate the switching of bodies.

Hopefully it's on Kishi's mind.

I'm sure he has a special transferring technique specifically for an Uchiha body to make it permanent; the trade-off would probably be that he won't be able to switch anymore, if even the body dies, which would explain why he hasn't used it yet.

We don't know how exactly Cursed Seal affects vessels. But I believe it was stated in manga that Kimimaro was Oro's perfect body, THEN Sasuke. It means that Kimi and Sasuke had strong enough bodies to let Orochimaru stay inside of them for many years.

Orochimaru could kill Sasuke and take his Sharingan but putting them in a body that would rot in 3 years is a waste.
