evening , this is basically a theory presenting the plausible reason because of which orochimaru tried to destroy konoha in the past and why did he stop :
thus we will go through the parallelism in the legacies as a start , then we will go through the plausible theory of oro having revenge on the leaf and finally we will see why did he make a change of plans


1- parallelism


We all know that kishi made a parallelism bt/ team #7 and the Tensetsou no Sannin

-Naruto - Jiraya

the first inherited the latter's will , and was he disciple

- Saukra - Tsunade

same as the above case

Sasuke - Oraochimaru

well that's where our theory lies :

sasuke and oro both are rogue ninjas from konoha seeking power and then they turned out wanting to destroy the hidden village , but what if orochimaru also wanting to take revenge on the leaf , and not just to destroy it on a Whim ?


2- Orochimaru's Revenge


So mainly this theory is abt Orochimaru having his whole clan wiped out by the leaf's commandants orders because , like the uchihas they were posing a grave threat.

we can imagine that the threat they were posing was their thirst for knowledge and the mastery of all jutsus , which is Oro's ninja way.
so the theory states that oro found out the truth , decided then to take revenge on the leaf
but why did he stop?

3- Change of plans

basically orochimaru saw in sasuke his same exact purpose : revenge
so simply , he accepted making sasuke have his own revenge along with the uchiha's


In conclusion , although many parallelisms were made in the series, but at different scales they can all work if they were submit to logical reasoning etcc making thus this theory valid

oro didn't change his reason of crushing konoha , he just changed the : " Who will crush konoha "

But maybe his parents were killed by the village for some reason or maybe they died due to a mission similar to kabuto' s mom and he found out but I doubt it was a whole clan
