orochimaru was known to be the most feared in konoha not itachi people just said itachi had some amazing abilities in genjutsu like finger and eye casting but people would still want to try to fight itachi and get after him.
no one would try and come after orochimaru and kill him the most they would ever do would be to try and see where his hide outs are because anyone that messed with orochimaru will just be his next experiment(even the detective's of the hidden leaf feared this guy even orochimaru as a kid.)
orochimaru was actually powerful and has probably surpassed the third hokage in overall strength as well and the third hokage was known to best shinobi of all time.(when orochimaru was able to use both hands the third hokage felt like no can defeat him)
but even the third hokage knew that orochimaru was probably going to defeat him and every other person in the village thought that no one in the village would be able to beat orochimaru in fact people where actually in fear they did not want to target orochimaru at all and even sasuke knows this as well with everyone that has seen orochimaru, orochimaru with his hands able to use jutsu's makes orochimaru almost unstoppable to why hiruzen feared him.
remember when orochimaru made the third hokage fight against tobirama and hashirama orochimaru was clearly playing with the third hokage and enjoying it he wanted hiruzen to feel despair and he did well by using impure world resurrection jutsu which was one of the reason's hiruzen feared orochimaru powers and acknowledged him as gifted and did not want to kill him.(orochimaru is really a powerful person that that hiruzen saw and liked and gained a bond with and did not want to destroy orochimaru but it was too late in the end and hiruzen fear came true and hiruzen died)
obviously orochimaru has more knowlege then itachi he basically researches everything and wants to gain a bit of everything and has come far with it orochimaru knows lots of jutsu's and was even able to fight with four tail naruto in his weakened state when his hands were severly damaged by hiruzen so that should tell you something who can fight like orochimaru well nobody because orochimaru is too powerful.(orochimaru ability of using jutsu by hands have been basicallly been taking away by hiruzen but orochimaru still has lots of powerful jutsu's and can still fight on tailed beast level so orochimaru with his hands healed is on another level)
think about it orochimaru would destroy itachi the only reason why orochimaru will lose to itachi is because itachi knows what orochimaru wants his body and so would orochimaru fight an all out battle with itachi and risk itach body being severely damaged and be useless to him i don't think so, so itachi using a genjutsu on orochimaru was sign that orochimaru will have to really take his body by going all out not taking itachi body easily and so itachi just left the scene.
plus orochimaru turned into a snake so if itachi tried to kill him anyway it wouldn't be smart since orochimaru fumes will enter itachi mind and itachi will have to fight orochimaru for control and itachi would be force to keep orochimaru chakra under control like sasuke which would be bad for itachi and i think itachi probably saw threw this because orochimaru always has a plan.

so do you agree that orochimaru was really the stronger than sasuke and itachi and that the only reason that itachi and sasuke won against orochimaru was because orochimaru did not want to hurt his next potential host bodies and plus also that he was in a weakned state so it is dangerous for him to even fight itachi or sasuke.
