Oh, definitely. Orochimaru's honestly the most criminally underrated ninja, only because he's being constantly beat in order to show off just how strong Sasuke or Itachi are-- it's incredible how the best characters are the most mistreated by the plot, isn't it? Anyway, Orochimaru's undoubtedly one of the strongest shinobi in the NV below the people with kekkei genkai and especially dojutsu. I wouldn't say he 'outsmarted' Itachi, though, since... Itachi did have him beat, but he managed to come back anyway via Sasuke. That's planning ahead, not really directly outsmarting. It shows how good Orochimaru is at contingency plans, not that he managed to completely outsmart Itachi.

I like Itachi and Orochimaru. They're some of my favorite characters, and I honestly do wish they had a legitimately interesting fight rather than Orochimaru getting genjutsu'd or Totsuka'd. That blame's on Kishimoto, though.

Anyway, Orochimaru proved the power of his chakra by controlling three of the four Hokages, only unable to fully control Hashirama whose chakra is legendary, exerting the power of his own chakra over three of the four most powerful ninjas in the verse, and with how he never seems to actually overexert his chakra, only the body he's inhabiting. I mean, have we ever actually seen Orochimaru go all-out while not in a decaying body? Even then, we saw him casually fighting off Naruto when his body was physically rejecting him and having the ability to off early Shippuden Sasuke while he was literally on his deathbed. There's no denying it, if Orochimaru wanted to just kill Sasuke rather than take his body, Sasuke would be dead.

This was generally a cool thread showing off Orochimaru's chakra. +Rep.

Interesting thread , Orochimaru's incredible lifeforce is interesting.

It's Kabuto that says "incredible" , from a scientist like him , that has a bigger impact than if Lee said it.
Kabuto made studies over the Uzumaki blood and Juugo's blood , both having an unnatural life force , he sees incredibles lifeforces everydays.
And he still describes Orochimaru's life force as "incredible".

Thanks for that detail that I didn't catch , that makes Orochimaru's character even more interesting.

I agree and disagree. For one, it should be a fact that he had a large volume of chakra which is why he wanted to learn the Dragon Sage Mode, but his body prevented him from doing so. As far as potency goes then it has a lot to do with his experimentation with the White Snake.

Looks like Itachi wankers can't deal with the fact that Itachi died to a fodder disease and is completely irrelevant now, while Orochimaru is coming back as one of the main characters in the upcoming movie.

Except not quite. Sasuke himself admitted inferiority to Orochimaru, and only won because Orochimaru wasn't actively trying to kill him... and this was when Orochimaru was literally on his death bed. Sasuke would be dead already if Orochimaru didn't want to take his body, and that's just what Sasuke said. As for Itachi, that's true, I won't argue that because to do so would be kind of wrong, Itachi did get him with genjutsu and Totsuka beforehand, even if both instances were poorly written.

... and as for your last point, the majority of anime villains are facing off against kids who aren't even seventeen. Kids are generally the protagonists of shonen. Sasuke was just seventeen by the time he and Naruto were fighting Madara and Kaguya, so... that point is generally invalid for a lot of reasons.
