He was absorbed by Sasuke, then he escaped. Same Orochimaru. He was pierced by Totsuka, but escaped that too. As a small snake he was burned by the flames of Amaterasu. But he remained alive in Kabuto and his Curse Marks, he held a consciousness within them. So Orochimaru is still the one and only...

Itachi's only goal regarding that incident with the Totsuka sealing was to remove the curse mark from Sasuke so that he would no longer be in harm's way.

This succeeded. Orochimaru has no chance of taking over Sasuke's body now.

Orochimaru can come back as long as someone is around to reverse the seal on one of his subordinates who still has a cm. Sasuke let out a hideout full of CM users, so Oro's good there. However, if he dies or is sealed away again, he won't be able to have a clone version come back that retains his consciousness this time around. Sasuke wouldn't be willing to bring him back (he only brought him out of necessity) and Kabuto is leaving Oro. Lol

Six Paths basically said the same thing. The body that was within Sasuke's CM was absorbed into Totsuka. It's still there. However, Orochimaru can maintain consciousness through anyone who still has a CM, hence why Anko was used and all Sasuke had to do was reverse her seal.

It's Orochimaru in a way, since this version still has the same knowledge that the one sealed in Totsuka had. But, it's not physically the same exact one that was sealed away.

If he cant get Sasuke he might settle for Yamato since he has a CM now. The rinnegan could be a possibility for him if he takes Yamato's body with his wood abilities. I don't think Spiral Zetsu can get a CM and Yamato was inside Spiral Zetsu when Oro bit him. The only one who noticed Yamato come out of Spial Zetsu was Hiruzen and he's gone. Oro seemed to notice something about who he bit but was more concerned about hurrying to Sasuke. This could be a future movie plot.

Oro outsmarted just about everyone. If he had strength to match it he'd be invincible. His defensive and evasive skills are unmatched by anyone in the show but he just doesn't have offensively damaging enough stuff to be dangerous to the current characters that matter. He knew about everything that could potentially matter and also decoded the uchiha's stone which no one else ever had.

The other thing you have to consider is that Itachi may not know this but Oro's power served sasuke well several time. He would have not been able to defeat Deidara at the time or even Naruto to be honest. And even in the fight with Itachi oro's powers helped defeat or tire out itachi.

So Oro played his part. Even the main fight against Juubito, Jugo ended up making sasuke a useful ally by infusing sage mode into his attacks.

So props to oro, but he's not a threat to any of the main characters anymore. A far cry from part 1 where kakashi peed his pants in fear just from a look and to an extent we may have considered him the strongest fella in the whole show. He had his time.
