Here, we will get our origins on the Uzumaki:
Let us start with a region of the world known as the Izu Islands. Some of you will recall that Sir Derp Obito has already speculated upon the origin of Uzu - but things have changed since then, and it is worth revisiting along the same context.
Whether Uzu is supposed to be Onogoro (a mythical 'first island') or not seems rather petty at this point, as no one has been able to tie a geographic location to the mythology of Onogoro.
There is a particular island within the Izu island chain: Aogashima:
"Okay, Aim... so what does this have to do with the Uzumaki?"
That has everything to do with the God Tree, whose name is most likely: Wakunochi-no-kami. The God Tree draws its inspiration from the Japanese mythos of Kodama:
"In Aogashima, Izu Islands, people place small shrines at the base of cryptomeria (Japanese cedar) trees and still worship and pray to them. This is said to be the remainders of a nature-worshiping religion that once dominated."
And here we have the tie-in to the Uzumaki.
Hachijyo Jima would also seem to play an importance:
"Hachijō-jima has been inhabited since at least the Jomon period, and archaeologists have found magatama and other remains. Under the Ritsuryō system of the early Nara period, the island was part of Suruga Province. It was transferred to Izu Province when Izu separated from Suruga in 680 AD. During the Heian period, Minamoto no Tametomo was banished to Izu Ōshima after a failed rebellion, but per a semi-legendary story, escaped to Hachijō-jima, where he attempted to establish an independent kingdom. Muromachi period documents indicate that the Kantō kubō appointed a daikan to govern Hachijō-jima on his behalf."
Suruga is the province in which Mount Fuji exists... which is the mountain upon which the Elixir of Immortality was burned:
The Elixir of Immortality was bestowed upon the Emperor by Kaguya-Hime before she donned the Hagoromo to return to the moon.
The Uzumaki were the shamans who tended to the God Tree on its isolated abode in Uzu.
