This post marks the beginning of the Orientation, something that will allow you to ease into the role-play on a more personal basis. We can do this in a Role-play manner, where my character will explain the inner workings of the system or in an out-of-character manner, where it will just be me and you. Or a combination of both. That is up to you.

After that, we can decide on what area to start and what to focus on. :).

I would like to base this in an OOC manner, after the initial starter stuff i would like to delve into the kumi system and what you can do to earn them, how you would go about leveling up your bio, making a clan within the ninja world, how would I go about activating my byakugan and also the creation of custom weapons and jutsu. So please do start with the orientation and thank you for helping me out.

Alright, OOC it is. Now, my good friend Drackos has split everything into a basic format that allows us to separate everything so that you aren't overwhelmed with too much stuff and so it actually follows suit. We'll cover all you stated, but we'll go step-by-step for it.

Now, you get to choose with which section we start:

Biographies:

An area you might deal with in the beginning, making your bio. What kind of bio is better, what is the difference between custom and canon bios, and why are certain canon bios so expensive?! Ranks, what do they entail. The different types of abilities, specialties and combinations you can have. Also very extensive.

Canon vs Custom Bios
Ranks
Specialties
Special Abilities (and their combinations HA/AE/KG/Mode)

Battling:

A very important aspect. Time frame, how does one equate speed in the RP, how does his technique interact with mine, how can I avoid this particular skill, etc. Fairly extensive.

Time-frame
Blocking, avoiding, dodging
Disagreements, quoting, and quoting etiquette
Official vs Unofficial battles

The Ninja World or Warring States Era (WSE):

The areas surrounding the missions in the WSE, what clans are, what does story arcs are and why they are important. The maps, the rules of engagement, etc. An in-depth look into the Ninja World/WSE.

Missions (Very important)
Clans
Story Arcs

Customs:

Basically the do's and don't of these. What they are, how many you can have, what is forbidden to make, and how to properly make them among other things.

CJ (Custom Jutsu)
CFS (Custom Fighting Style)
CE/CEJ (Custom Elements and Custom Element Jutsus)
CC/CCJ (Custom Clans and Custom Clan Jutsu)
CW (Custom Weapons)
CT (Custom Technology)

Can we start with Canon vs Non Canon(custom) bios what are there advantages and drawbacks
followed by the ranks, and specialties
Good choice :)

Okay, so let's start with Canon bios. These are the biographies based on characters from the manga/anime of Naruto, which the RP is based on. This ranges from basic characters like say, Kiba to the insane powerhouses like Naruto or Sasuke who are our lead characters in the series and have the power to match it. Why would anyone want to use a Canon character? What are the advantages?

1. The appeal to play a certain character, or favorite from the series (I really liked Sasuke and Minato, and have had the opportunity to wield both.)
2. The abilities that they come with. These characters usually have special abilities that CAN'T be achieved via the custom route. To put this easy, think of the Lightning Armor of the 3rd and 4th Raikage.
3. Becoming synonymous with that character. This was something that was HUGE back in the day. If you said Madara, you'd think of LoK for example. Not so much these days, with the ability to gain canon biographies easier (we had tests back then).

So to put it simple, Canon biographies have great abilities, usually very powerful that are linked and only available through a certain character, a CANON character. Another nice example is something like the Rinnegan, only certain canon characters get it, and you see the appeal in that, yeah? Or you're more a Tenseigan guy ;)

So with that in mind, it explains why Canon biographies are so EXPENSIVE. They come with these abilities and they are usually very exploitative. Not everyone is running around with an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, for good reason. It costs 19 000 Kumi xD.

What are the disadvantages to these biographies?

1. They usually constrict you due to only having a specific number of abilities on them. Yes, the abilities are unique but you can't have say, Sound Ninjutsu on them (like I love Sound, and I hate not being able to use it Sasuke). Especially if you built an arsenal around an ability that you CAN'T add to the canon biography.
2. They are expensive. Not everyone has Kumi lying around to invest into a full canon biography. Some of them have stages (looking at you Sasuke >_>) and can cost above 50k in the end.
3. You can get bored, fast. With a custom character, you have the freedom of a personality, looks, abilities. With canon, you're constrained to who they are and sometimes, it just gets boring.

Do you have any questions regarding Canon biographies in particular?

So canon bios i assume are much easier for a new guy since its all restricted and laid out before them, however I have chosen to go with a custom bio due to the freedom of choice. For a hyuga can you reach tenseigan if ur bio has high enough rank and enough kumi to get it. The cannon bios some characters have different forms so do you have to go through each phase or can you skip forms if u have enough kumi etc?

Yeah, they are actually.

In terms of Hyuga (custom in your case) to achieve the Tenseigan you need to purchase the Tenseigan for 19 000 Kumi and be Jounin rank. That's pretty much it for you to get the Tenseigan.

As for second question, some do have forms and each is listed in their rules. No, you don't skip phases and the stages you go are specific to each character. For example, with Sasuke I needed to have his basic form (no cost) for 2 months. Then get EMS for 19k (and have to be Jounin rank, just like with Tenseigan), then have to wait another 2 months to be able to purchase his final form, Six Paths Sasuke for 30k.

Anything else in this area?

Nope, i guess we move on to the next topic now
Alright. Just in case you need it:

Now, we move to Custom biographies. These are the biographies that are based on a character outside the canon universe. You can make Luffy from One Piece, Natsu from Fairy Tail or whatever character exists outside the Naruto universe. This can even be a real person, someone from a series, whatever. It has to retain some form of human likeness though (no animals can be made into bios). Why go custom? Advantages are things like;

1. Freedom of choice and uniqueness; you get to choose who you want to be. For example, that character from Durarara with the mask and smoke like body would make a nice Nara, or Smoke based character, or Smoker from One Piece for example. Some characters from other shows fit the abilities within the Naruto universe quite well.
2. Wide selection of abilities; remember how canon bios constrain you? This isn't generally the case with custom bios. Like, you can make your own Mangekyō Sharingan design, based on your character and even make your own custom abilities around it (like it base it around a specific mythology, maybe). You could design to add abilities and combine the most unorthodox of abilities to get a truly unique character.

So to put it simple, custom biographies allow for a lot of customization in terms of appearance, abilities, history, whatever. What disadvantages might you experience when having a custom biography?

1. Too. Many. Options. Do I want to have Sound with Ink? A combination of an AE and HA?! I don't know! A problem that arises with custom biographies is that we have so many paths to go, you sometimes just don't know what to do.
2. It could turn out to be expensive as well. Gathering a lot of custom abilities can be quite tough in terms of Kumi.
3. Someone might own the rights to a character you like. An issue I hate. Some people if they have a bio, only they are allowed to make them, so they own rights to the character. This is obviously a custom character, and restricts you from ever using it, unless they give you permission or they are inactive for 3 months and you steal it from them!

That being said, I've always liked custom a bit more than the canon side. Any questions regarding custom biographies?

That is part of the Special Abilities part of the framework and I'll explain it nicely in detail there (in a few posts ;) ). However, next we have ranks. Do you know which ranks we currently have?

Okay, before we start let me quickly explain something as it is needed to understand the advancement of rank. Some ranks requires missions and battles to advance. For battles, there are special rules in place:

Lower and Higher Ranked Battles: Fighting a bio that is one rank below your own rank counts as .5 instead of 1. But on the other hand, a battle against somebody of higher rank will count as either 1.5 or 2 depending on if the their rank is only one above your own or more than one above.

This means, if you are Genin and you fight a Genin, it counts as 1 point. But if you are Genin and you fight an Academy Student (one rank lower than you) then it only counts as 0.5 points. Lastly, if you are a Genin and you fight a Chunin, it counts as 1.5 points as they are one rank higher than you. And lastly, if you are Genin and you fight a Jounin, it counts for 2 points as they are two ranks above you. That's the peak. These points come into play when ranking up. That means, when you have to get say 4 points to advance in rank, you'd need 4 fights (1+1+1+1) against people at equal rank, or 2 fights (2+2) against people of two ranks above you .

As for the ranks, there exists 5 different ones and they are as follow:

1. Academy Student:

This is the starting rank. When you make your first bio, you start here. You don't have to do anything to get it. At this rank, you have 300 chakra and 35 health. You have the ability to get 2 basic elements (from Fire, Wind, Earth, Water and Lightning) and 1 Basic Ninja Skill (from Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Ninjutsu and Kenjutsu). These can be up to C Rank and which means, you can submit up to C rank Custom Jutsu of those you picked.

2. Genin:

This is the second rank and the first one you achieve via something. In order to advance from Academy Student to Genin, you need to complete EITHER 4 D/C rank missions, OR 4 Battles against someone of the same rank as you (Genin) OR a combination of the two (2 missions and 2 battles, or 3 missions and 1 battle). Remember the point system I explained above? You would use that. With this rank, you get 600 Chakra and 75 Health, as well as access to 3 Basic Elements and 2 Basic Ninja Skill at B rank.. You also get to submit up to B rank Custom Jutsu of those you picked.

3. Chunin:

This is the third and basically mid way rank. To get to this rank from Genin rank, you have to complete 5 missions of B/A rank, or 5 battles (either against individuals at Chunin rank, or higher. If higher, then apply the point system explained above to get more points and thus, less fights) or a combination of the two. You gain 1000 Chakra and 100 Health points.. Now here things get a bit better. You have access to 4 Basic Elements at A rank and 4 Basic Ninja Skills at A rank. One of the elements can be chosen to go up to S rank. Lastly, you can submit up to A rank Custom Jutsu of those you picked.

4. Jounin:

The one I am at currently. To get this rank from Chunin rank you have to complete 6 missions of S rank or 6 battles against those of comparable rank or higher (only one higher at this point is Sages) or a combination of the two.. You get 1600 Chakra and 160 Health points as well as access to all 5 elements up S rank and above (Forbidden rank). This allows you to submit Custom Jutsu up to Forbidden Rank of all the elements you have at that point.

5. Sage:

The most difficult one and also for good reason. The Sage rank can be achieved through EITHER purchasing it for 25 000 Kumi or by completing a Sage Mission which is unique and given to you by LoK if you fit the requirements. Why is Sage so cool? You get 2000 Chakra and 200 Health as well as the ability to MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOM CLAN. Not be confused with clans in the Ninja World/WSE, these custom clans are ones that you make with abilities and everything. Some examples include the Kisei clan (based on Harry Potter, clan members use wands and have a magic like chakra to use "spells") and the Binkan clan (based on Star Wars where the clan members had access to the Force and could use it via chakra). Just some examples, we can talk more about Custom Clans later. They also have the ability to submit a 3rd Custom Fighting Style. Everyone else is limited to 2 Custom Fighting Styles.

It's a bit much, but it's pretty straightforward. So what you have is always limited to your rank, same goes for what biographies you can wield. Some require Chunin rank others require Jounin rank, for example. Any questions? (I assume you have some O_O).

Those ranks can be found

Next in line, we have the specialties. They can be found

Now, the thread explains them quite well so I won't have to go SO in depth with them as the other stuff since the others leave a lot to one's own devices. Now just to be clear, now that we have made the distinction between canon and custom biographies, more differences exist. This comes in the form of specialties. Some Canon biographies have showcased some skill in the manga/anime due to their unique abilities and this awards them certain specialties. Sorry for using Sasuke a lot, but his final Six Paths form allows him the specialty to use techniques with merely a single hand, making him an Advanced Hand Seal Specialist, for example.

Now let's break it down. There are two paths you can choose when deciding on specialties:

1. You choose 2 Primary + 1 Secondary, in addition to 1 Extra or 1 CFS-related specialties.

2. You can choose 1 Primary + 1 Secondary + 1 Unique, in addition to 1 Extra and 1 CFS-related specialties.

WHAT DO THESE MEAN you wonder, we'll break them down further;

Primary Specialties:

These are the specialties you want to be primarily specialized in, if your character is an elements type of one, you choose an elemental one, if you have a speed based character, it would be more leaned towards choosing something with a Taijutsu or Kenjutsu part since those are body based and usually give speed advantages, etc. Let's look at an example:

Single Handseal Specialist:

You can perform techniques of the skill you chose to specialize in by performing a single ( 1 ) handseal, that is still double-handed except when specifically stated otherwise in the technique. This can be applied to Advanced and Custom Elements that are composed of basic elemental affinities.

This specialty allows you to choose a single element, and perform its techniques with one hand seal. Very useful if you want to use that element without the hassle of always forming a lot of hand seals.

Genjutsu Range Specialist:

You can perform Genjutsu with one extra range added on. This does not apply to Genjutsu that are able to prevent at least two forms of Genjutsu Break.

This one is more Genjutsu oriented and literally increases the range of the Genjutsu you cast.

Now, we can go through each one of the specialties, or we can just go through them like this, which do you prefer?

Only locked in till you update your character again, you're always free to change them with the next update.
Okay, we'll go through the primary ones then.

Okay, now for this one I explained up top already. It's basically allowing you to get one hand seal for a specific element. This can be applied to Advanced and Custom Elements as well, as long as they are composed of the basic elements (like how Ice is Water and Wind).

Personal Summoning Specialist:

You can have one summon with you at all times. In case of Custom made summons, from Canon or Custom Contracts, you have the monopoly of that summon, and other users of the contract may not utilize it when facing you in battle, or in the NW until your defeat.

With this one, you can have a summon with you at all times (one you signed or a custom one you got approved). With this specialty, if you face someone with the same summon, they can't use it for that battle. Not that cool as the others, but it has its uses.

Shadow Clone Specialist:

You can have Shadow Clones and variants that return up to 50% more chakra when dispersed. This also allows you to create 1 more Shadow Clone than normal.

I believe normally Shadow Clones return around 10% of chakra when they disperse, with this specialty, they return 50% more. This also allows you to create one more Shadow Clone than normal (we normally just allow 4 clones to be made at once, with this, you can have 5).

Increased Tracking Specialist:

Limited to Taijutsu-related Specialties, including Kenjutsu and Bujikutsu. x1.5 tracking. Not compatible with Genjutsu-related Specialties.

This one might have you interest. You get 1.5x more tracking, which allows you to see things better and track fast techniques and what not.

Combat Specialist:

Limited to Taijutsu related Specialties. Kenjutsu and Taijutsu increases passively by 10 damage.

This specialty allows you to passively increase the damage done by Taijutsu and Kenjutsu with 10 damage points. So a technique that would normally do 40 damage, now does 50, limited to Kenjutsu and Taijutsu.

Genjutsu Range Specialist:

You can perform Genjutsu with one extra range added on. This does not apply to Genjutsu that are able to prevent at least two forms of Genjutsu Break.

I think I covered this one up top. Genjutsu you use get to gain an extra range. So those listed as Mid range, can now make it all the way to Long range. From Short range to Mid range. Useful for those who like Genjutsu, though.

Genjutsu Defense Specialist:

Limited to Genjutsu-related specialist. You can have a Genjutsu immunity of up to C rank, being immune to basic Genjutsu of that rank and lower.

Another Genjutsu based one. This one allows your character to have immunity to BASIC Genjutsu of C rank and below. Basic is written big because this DOES NOT INCLUDE Genjutsu done through Sound, Sharingan, Yin, etc. Just normal basic Genjutsu.

Damage Resistance:

Your body is capable of reducing D rank damage ( 10 damage ) from Ninjutsu/Taijutsu attacks, from physical elements and ninjutsu skills and taijutsu skills that you specialize in.

If you're more of a tank guy, you can take this one. Allows you to shave off 10 damage from Ninjutsu and Taijutsu attacks. For the former, only from PHYSICAL ELEMENTS (Water and Earth, or similar) and Taijutsu, as well as the element you specialize in (Could be Fire, in this case).

Genjutsu Casting Specialist:

Limited to Genjutsu-related specialist. You are able to cast Genjutsu with only 1 seal, lowering the requirements for casting to just 1 seal unless specific triggers are required.

Lastly, another Genjutsu related one. This one allows you to cast Genjutsu techniques with a single hand seal. One of my favorite primary specialties.

So depending on the route, you can choose either one or two of these. Any questions?
