Order of kazekage

We all know that Gaara's father(fourth kazekage) died around Chunin exam, in which Gaara was participating so considering the fact that he needed some experience, and other things, he needed minimum one year or so to become kazekage..My question is why elders of Sand village didn't choose another kazekage during this interval??..I mean considering stand of the sand village elders after Gaara was kidnapped by Deidara and Sasori, one year is a very large interval, and if its true Gaara must be the sixth kazekage and not fifth,any thoughts??

If the book says he's the 5th then he's the 5th. As to why they didn't name anyone else, it's so Gaara could be the 5th. maybe even at that point he was the strongest in the Sand Village because of Shikaku.

Baki was covering kage needs but wasn't officially made kage he was covering until gaara became strong enough or older idk witch 1

great find but may be they didn't have one powerful and note worthy to lead the village IMO ........
And Sand village did had a council so may be due to some political issues might have given Gara time to prove that he is worthy for the position of Kazekage

Again, Gaara had Shikaku at that time. No one person in the sand was stronger than him even at that point so it's only logical that Gaara would be given the title of Kazekage upon returning from the Cuunin exams and discovering his father's death.

I'm guessing that the main reason was because Kishi wanted to next Kazekage to be Gaara to spur Naruto on and to introduce some friendly rivalry between the two. If your looking for a logical reason within the Narutoverse it will only be speculation but it could have something to do with how the 4th died.

His death was shrouded in mystery and secrets. When Gaara was kidnapped the village needed to look strong so it didn't get invaded while they had no Kazekage but when the 4th died Suna had just attacked Konoha, although it wasn't successful it was still a feat considering how weak Sunagakure is considered and ontop of that they also had just allied themselves with Konoha aswell. Maybe they didn't feel that a Kazekage was needed to show the villages strength.

Having a group like Akatsuki kidnap the Kazekage who is said to be the most powerful ninja in the village and also a Bijuu shows weakness.

i believe that the sand is so weak that they had to wait to until Gaara was expirenced enough because he is the strongest thing that sand has produced ever. And he's not that great in comparison to what i have seen in the Naruverse

Some people (like elders or council) are probably were taking care of the village's diplomatic issues at that time, and Gaara is the strongest person in their village, because Sunagakure is a steaming pile of weaklings.
