The guy was weird, that much I'd already realised. Of all the things that scared me, weird faces, bugs, the threat of pain on my friends... The changing of ones face did not. Honestly, I'd become so accustomed to being with people who change there face, this trick didn't bother me at all. If anything, it helped me settle down. The removal of the face was odd, sure. Grabbing the skin and pulling it clean off to reveal a new, fresh face beneath... Yeah, that's f***ing crazy. He was a snake, literally.
I swallow whatever fear remained in the forefront of my mind and look at him, dead in the eyes, all my negative emotions gone, hidden away beneath my beauty.
"You know, until you did that, I thought you were pretty scary in truth. I spent the last two years of my life travelling with a friend of mine who wore a different face every day. She didn't tear the flesh from her face in such a grotesque manner as you, but the concept is the same. She was not scary, nor was she evil. That girl was sweet and kind, she changed her face to mask her imperfections and also to honour those she chose to represent. Figures from her childhood, heroes, villains and all those in between. She connected to those she had lost through her characters, relived moments from stories with herself as the main character. She was free. To answer your question... You're just like everyone else."
I take a step forward, to analyse him closer. I use both his real form, and his reflected form still at his feet.
"What is it for you? Insecurity? No... Honouring your childhood? No... I can't see it. I don't know why you have come to me today. I don't know what you plan to do once this conversation is done, but before you put whatever plan you have into action... Tell me...
What is it you're hiding from?"
