Shin sees as someone appears in front of him and in mid range. He had hopped to fight someone bigger and scary but he would had to be happy with this opponent. Knowing full well to not make fun of soft looking opponents like the one in front of him, considering the fact that shin himself is a small boy and doesn't look scary at all. So shin to start off performs two hand seals which allow him to release from his mouth a meteor-sized sphere of fire towards his opponent. The sphere of fire is so large that it blocks shin's vision of the things in front of him including his opponent, it also covers a huge area burning everything that get in it's away as it travels towards his opponent. Should the sphere hit his opponent it would carry him backwards for a slight second before exploding and that should cause a lot of damage.

Taking advantage of the fact that the sphere blocks their vision, shin decides to send his chakra onto the ground, causing it to get soft like sand. This allows him to dig himself underground and whilst there he can sense the happenings on the surface, meaning he can locate where his opponent is standing. He proceeds to head past his opponent and raises from the ground, behind her and short range from her, he throws two kunais at her, one aimed at her neck and the second aimed at her back. Should the kunai strike her neck, she would probably die. Shin then gets on a battling stance as the kunais head her way.

Description: The user changes earth into fine sand by channeling chakra into it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. While underground one can sense what is happening on the surface and use the information to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. Once can also hide deep in the ground, escaping to a depth where the enemy cant reach. It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth.

As Toph sees her opponent spitting a meteor-sized fireball she performs one handseal and spits a large-sized ball of water towards the fireball making a big cloud of water vapour that makes their vision blurry a bit.

Description: The user will do one handseal and will gather water in his mouth and then spits out a large sphere of rotating water that can blast a huge area leaving it soaked. It can also be used in quick succession to shoot up to 3 smaller but faster bullets of water.

Once the fire and water balls nullified each other Toph started to search for that kid while the mist is fading away due to the weak air currents around the terrain.
Since toph couldn't find him she performed one handseal and hardened her body to steel-like quality to protect herself from any surprise attack. After second 2 kunais hit her back and neck but with no harm due to the hardening earth jutsu, she then looked backwards and waited for her opponent's movements

Description: After performing the Snake hand seal the user will channel their chakra throughout their entire body, which then hardens their skin to a steel-like quality. This increases their defensive power to the utmost limits. The user’s skin also becomes much darker, an almost black colour.
The destructive power of physical attacks is increased, making this a great, all purpose technique. But this technique when activated leaves the user vulnerable to lightning based techniques.

After his kunais fail to cause any damage to his opponent shin becomes rather mad. He then notices why the kunais had no effect whatsoever, noticing that his opponent's body has changed completely. Knowing full well that taijutsu attacks won't work shin backs off just a couple of feet whilst gathering chakra and then releases a stream of fire towards his opponent, hopping to at least cause some damage.

Shin who is not standing mid-range from his opponent gets on a battling stance as he waits for his opponent's next move and her answer to his question.
