Open question: what makes Sasuke a bad father?

The real question should be what makes him a good father? Cause leaving your daughter for 12 years doing nothing says enough.

Hell Kishimoto could of even drawn parallels to the fact that apparently Itachi wanted to become Hokage (In his Novel). Shit wouldn't have been much of a Gaiden for the Boruto Movie, but at least it would of been more interesting than the current version. I mean look at it from another POV, Kishimoto even brought up Itachi randomly.

That said, he def loves his family and would clearly give his life for them...but there's more than that to fatherhood.

His mission doesn't justify he did not give signs of life.
He was using the mission as an excuse to stay away from his family. He had zero interest to know how she and Sakura was going. And he showed no regret. Gave indifferent answers to her daugher, this when he wasn't ignoring Sarada's drama.
Of course, Sarada's drama is much less than what Naruto and Sasuke passed in their childhood. So Sasuke can think she is overdoing. But she has another life, she lives in another era, has different preocupations. And in any scenario, he's not a good father.

Not that this is new to Sasuke, he has a completely antisocial personality, just like Madara.
Behavioral trend aside, it doesn't erase the fact that he is a bad father. The complete absence affected his daughter in a negative way.

Being married with a child seems OOC for Sasuke's character.

But being 100% focused on finding a perceived threat seems totally in character for him.

Does his focus on achieving that goal make him look like a bad father? Yes, even though any smart enemy will know that one way to handicap their pursuer is to target the pursuer's family. By tracking the threat, he is already risking his life. Any contact with his family risks their lives as well, which is the last thing Sasuke would want.

Given his personality and the circumstances, like most parents, he's the best father that he's capable of being.

I don't view Sasuke as a bad father, but a person who was written bad. Either way it's just a flaw of Kishimoto's lack of writing.

Nothing was preventing him from coming back at least once a year to visit his family, but it's more or less bad writing.

Kishi just failed to convince me that he couldn't drop by to see his daughter a few times. And the fact that Sasuke's doing a mission only he can do yet not providing enough to cover the house's mortgage.

He can even send letters with hawks, and he has a cellphone but it's uncharged, lol.

Also, the fact that he refuses to show any interest in his wife sort of irks me.

Sasuke is a bad father because he left his family for about 11 years. Sarada couldn't remember who he was. If he was a good father he would have stopped from time to time. Knowing he is a man on a mission to gather info on Naruto's behalf and for his family's welfare he could have at least visited them once without neglecting them for years.

Then there is the fact that he forgot his own daughter's face. Come on he was there during when Sarada was very little. He could have remebered. Okay even if he couldn't remember can't that dude see she also has the Sharingan. Instead he was about to kill her with his sword.

When Sarada asks why did he abandon her and Sakura he tends to ignore her with Naruto having to fill in his shoes. This is already multiple signs of him being a bad father. Also not only was he a bad father but he also failed miserably in his mission to find the greater threat. He only hyped up the problem and made it worse for the 5 Great Villages.
