Gins death was good too.
The very first chapter of dragon ball you see a little kids penis okay... dont talk to me about inappropriateness in manga and mention dragon ball. Master roshi was looking at porn mags the enitre series. Bulma lifted her skirt for master roshi and wasnt wearing panties. Goku used bulma's crotch as a pillow and said it wasnt as good as Grandpa Gohans lol. DBZ killed characters all the time but plot had them brought back. So what you are saying is that Kubo messed up because he added it later lol. And never change the formula is the key to stale content, it has been the death of thousands of books, tv shows, movie series and mangas. Rehashing the same plotlines over and over or the same villain types and same themes.
Naruto has changed tones, it went from I wanna be the hokage and get recognition, to I wanna create world peace and be freaking buddha. From dark fights with sadistic villains and questionable morals to Naruto saves the world with talk no jutsu. From Ninja esque sneaking and tracking, ambushes and strategy to spam rasengan variants and sage mode. Don't mention Kubo and say how much he sucks by mentioning Kishi. I could critizize any mangaka's work all day. And the simple fact is that some people enjoy some things and others do not. Kubo isn't losing fans because of these chapters, he lost fans because he over-glorified aizen and wanted to continue his manga after his defeat. That is his mistake, he didn't think ahead with aizen's defeat and plan his next villain in advance and that is an honest mistake, not one that is easily prevented. He decided to continue doing what he loved and what many love and now he gets criticized for it. But honestly bleach shouldn't have ended there, it would have left to many questions.
Its not to his credit blah blah blah. It not to your preference he added sexual themes for one character, its not to your preference he killed some lame captains and had two really cool deaths. For one I highly doubt that rose and the other captain is actually dead, but gremmy is being over confident, and second it about time someone dies, like everyother week you hear people saying how preditable it is because the good guys win every time and they never die. God forbid kubo mix it up. And Kubo's lack of character devolment here isn't a problem, i didn't like it when he wanted us to get famiiar with the arrancar and I dont wanna get familiar with the sternritter who need to die and burn in hell for being sick bastards. He gives them enough depth to give a character a fight and he keeps around some and continues to develop them (bazz B, hashwalt, old guy, pepe, askin) the ones dying aren't important, the important ones are the powerful ones that haven't been in the sotlight enough to know about them. Kubo made these 4 girls/boy different and that is to his credit, because I can feel hate for them, and not character hate, but the hate yopu have for a villain. I feel he has done a good job at creating a unique villain set, he made a few characters sexual get over it.
First, gin's death was not good
OK, first part, yes, Dragon ball had blue humor, everyone knows that, but the humor of dragon ball had an essence of innocence, Bleach does not, it is in your face. Blue humor and degrading humor are very different, you need to read my other posts in this thread. I'm not complaining about sexual humor but the way Kubo is delivering it. Dragon ball was inoffensive because of the writers skill.
No, changing the formula kills, a story must develop to make it fresh. So many people think that if they take a story and just add in something new or add a bit of drama or death or *** or controversy they are making the story fresh, a story that develops properly does not need to change its formula, the story flows naturally and naturally does not become stale.
Stories lose there edge because writers run them beyond course of there natural development, or they change the formula by turning it into something else, instead of following the natural thread of the plot or characters. If a story cannot develop naturally, or the formula needs changing to freshen it, then the story was never meant to either survive, or run that long.
A good story has a natural movement and development, a story only becomes stale when you false it.
Second part, changing the goal in a story is not changing the tone. changing the tone is when a story is for instance a comedy and then becomes a drama. Kubo's mistake was not listening to the fan base and in my opinion, loosing interest in his work. The truth is that despite the disjointed story, Bleach would have survived if not for the change in tone. Kubo is a fantastic artist and character creator, but he should have worked with someone else when it came to the story.
Please read my other posts, adding sexualised characters to the story does not bother me, but you have to realize that Bleach has changed in tone and recently the tone of the story has also lowered, he has done this to try and get more readers. Kubo changed the formula of Bleach around the end of Aizen and that is the reason for its downfall, along with dragging it out to far.
I can hear by your anger that you respect Kubo and that is fine, but this is a discussion and people have different opinions. You have to realize that I have been reading Bleach for years, I've spent money on books and DVDs and memorabilia, only to have the formula of my second favorite manga make it unrecognizable, this is very disappointing to me. If I sound disgruntled at Kubo it is because I feel let down. I stopped reading Bleach for a while because he changed the formula, but when I returned, I found a different story and characters in its place.
