The anime is fine up until maybe the saoboady archipelagoblahblue arc. Then the pacing get's a little akward. I think you should stick with it up until then because the anime does that arc well. At least for me.
Yes!!! Don't listen to the people above! There's only 1 arc that's worth watching but even then that arc is censored. Read OP, don't watch it! Although the anime is alright, it's not bad. It has amazing OST's, voice actings, etc. The main problem is the pacing, recently the episodes follow a 1 chapter per episode pacing. So you know how bad it can be at times.

The anime is only bad as of recent. Before the time skip it was pretty good. Also the pacing wasn't that bad. It was around water 7 they started to do the 1 ch 1 ep ratio.
imo watching the anime up to the time skip isn't that bad of an option.
But if you don't want to waste too much time to be hooked, I'd suggest to watch this.

It's a 2 hour special with up to date animation of one of the beginning arcs. Just something to get a feel as to why OP is so great. Of course some of the stuff down the line is WAY better then this arc that was summed up into 2 hours.

I think even after the time skip it was amazing. It just got even better to me. I love all of One Piece.. even up to the recent episodes. Maybe I'm just too big of a fan. Either way, the animes amaazing.
You act like those themes are the foundation of the show..
I've seen just about every one of those themes dabbled with in One Piece just as much as I do in just about every other manga.
None of those themes are exclusive to the series. I say it's shallow because the story plot itself isn't a deeply formulated or complex circuit that engages the timeline or events from multiple accounts and then ties it all together. Not yet anyway. So far, one could say it's just going to the next to place to fight the next fight.
Op: Just read our watch the series for yourself and create your own singular opinion. Don't take the hype the series is being given.
They may not be exclusive to the series, but they are in the series, and it's makes the series far less shallow than say a series like Dragon Ball Z.
@Bold: That's exactly what the series does. I'll list examples in a spoiler for the sake of the OP who hasn't seen OP yet
Ace giving Luffy a Vivre Card in Alabasta that becomes important in Impel Down and Marineford. Vivre Cards themselves become important later on during Dressrosa.
Luffy meeting a man on Jaya, who then turns out to be the man his brother was defeated by, and then becomes a Shichibukai, a Yonko, and Luffy's greatest enemy. That one seemingly ordinary man becoming such a prominent figure.
There's Norland from Jaya-Skypeia Arcs being an important figure of a group of people the Strawhats are helping.
The concept of a royal family in Alabasta being revealed in Dressrosa to be the founders of the World Government.
Every arc has a connection to another arc, all these so-called "locations to locations" are connected to form one huge story.
I honestly won't pay much attention to Hixa. While it's one thing to express that you dislike the series and that you think the series isn't good, this guy is notorious to be one of the people that just mindlessly bash the series.

The anime is good, don't get me wrong, but people like Yo Momma San just wish the anime was better. They don't feel it is being done justice as of lately. Watching peoples reactions for 30 secs starts to get a bit annoying after 600+ episodes as well as mixing non canon in with the canon just to extend a chapter to fit the 20 min episode. All of this is done so the anime won't catch up to the manga. People are actually wanting filler episodes just so the pacing can improve later. That says something there.
Well I said it because he said he dropped it after 10 mins. I'm assuming it's cause the animation was a turn-off. I watched the anime till the TS and although it was great, it wasn't amazing. I did love the OST's & VA's so I guess it's worth watching.

Yeah that's what I did. I watched the anime till the TS and read from that point on. Yeah watch the specials but do it after you watch/read the arc that the special covers because the special is rushed (expected for a 2 hr special covering 40+ chapters)
The anime is great but compared to the manga it's alright/pretty good. (I'd rate the anime a 7.5 or 8 out of 10)

I personally prefer the manga over the anime, especially after the timeskip.

The points that you gave aren't all that deep. Honestly, the series wouldn't be much different if none of those things never happened. All those events and incidents could have not even been included and the story would be near the same...
Am I really notorious? There's only one or two times that I can remember that I actually said something relatively negative about One Piece..
If its that horrible why Oda has much more sales than Kishi??!! One piece is like the Dragonball of our generation but with better storyline. Actually the last 3 years One piece succed to make a better storyline than naruto.
The best storyline ever, ye thats what I would say about OP, oh and better read it its faster watching like 650 episodes would take u months, anyway u cant know how good is an anime from first 10 minutes thats like opening a book and reading the first page and done u leave it or watch an film only 5 mins.
If you have alot of time on your hands, then watch the anime, but later in the series, the pacing becomes so slow. If you want to catch up right away, then read the manga. 100 chapters takes about 1 hour if you speedread and 1.5-2 hours if you soak it all in. As for the pacing of the manga, there's alot going on in each chapter and waiting a week for the next chapter sucks. Luckily for you, you have 755 chapters to read until you'll need your weekly fix. I'd recommend waiting until the current arc is done before reading because its definitely the most jam packed arc in all of OP.
Why you should bother with OP? I like the characters and the adventures they go on. There's more but typing it down doesn't really do it justice. I read alot of manga, but One Piece is my favorite, that should give you an idea of how great it is.
One piece is good/great but is the definition of milking and fanyboying. I'm not that big a fan of it because of the way it draws females. Not bias though
