It's the best anime/manga ever created. Stick with it, yes it may seem stupid at first but then it just gets better and better. Marineford arc, Eines Lobby, those arcs just blow every anime or anything anime related I have ever seen. I can't even compare OP with Naruto, OP simply stomps. Seriously man, watch it, you wont regret it!

Also, if you'd like to see some awesome AMV's to make you watch further (some spoilers in there):

As for the anime, it gets bearable around where you're at, definitely at the Alabasta arc. So hang in there and my advice is not to listen too much to what others have to say about the series. Shape your own view on it.

Well, about the anime, it's almost ancient where it begins, so it isn't hard to understand why you say that. One thing would be to read the first part so as to give you a more overall understanding of the story.

Lol Alabasta is what got me hooked to OP, how is it unbearable hahah

Trust me.
Once you struggle past the first few arcs, the animation gets better, the plot gets even more interesting, each character gets equal enough screen time, just wait for the character designs since there are some really cool ones.

One Piece has the best story line, in my opinion.
Luffy's determination and Zoro's badass-ness is what gets you hooked!!

Just Watch it bro. People say "it'll get better", some say "it don't",, leave that all and watch it. It is the highest selling manga for a reason. Still if you leave it, you'll be missing a great series.
