Ya sadly. This is the worst part of the anime for me. They killed the manga with the filler in it and I just hate this bad guy with a strong passion. At least afterward it gets epic.

and is there anything important from the beginning to wher they're starting that i should know about because this is going to be where i start watching the show

They're starting at around 224ish. And yes, the recruiting of Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Zoro, Usopp, and Robin has already happened. Kind of big deals lol. Also, there's just some arcs you might want to read about, or read a summary about just to make sure you're not too lost on the important details.
