WOW all you naruto fan boys annoy me us one piece fans have cold hard facts to back up are claims you guys are just butt hurt because you know one piece is better dont get me wrong i like naruto but one piece and fairy tail are better then naruto..... so as i said my vote is one piece all the way not me being bias this is my opinion and a cold hard fact that one piece is better

If it wasn't for Japan, there'd be no Naruto or no One Piece. If there was no Japan, there'd be no manga or anime..
There are more people watching anime and reading manga in Japan than there are in US.
What has country popularity to do with anything? Japan isn't as popular as US? LOL.. That has no meaning in this discussion.

FAIL, ICv2 is and american base shonen news entity, that calculates manga, anime and dvd sales throughout all of north America, by interview's from manga manufacturer, distributor's and retailer's, stats shows that Naruto is the most bought manga in north america (US, Canada).
which proves my point that most people in the western world rather bleach and naruto, however OP have the most sales overall and thats from people in Europe and Asia, while naruto here in the western world is number 1 in both anime and manga, bleach is second and OP is way at position 8 of the most bought manga.
i provided evidence but i didn't expect much better from OP fanboy. try going to the US, or canada, or the Caribbean, or south America and you'll see the your precious OP is hardly recognized, Naruto is number 1 over here.

I gave OP an honest try, but it didn't stick for me. The biggest reason is that Luffy isn't really a hero. He is just an interesting/powerful protagonist who is very motivated in achieving his goal.

OP all the way! Naruto's good, but I love One Piece too much, it's definitely my favorite anime/manga. Too awesome, I haven't found anything that surpasses it to the date!
Based on? I'm from South America and OP i more popular here than Naruto or any other manga/anime, just like in Japan.
Not a hero?
Lets compare how many countries Naruto has saved to how many Luffy has saved(not counting fillers):
Naruto: Max 5 countries.
(There are only 5 countries he can save).
Luffy: At least 9
(The island with Cpt. Morgan, the corrupted Marine, he freed the island from his cruel reign.
The island Buggy was occupying.
Didn't really save the town with Usopp, but he did do a great deed there.
Namis home country, saved from Arlongs reign.
Drum Island.
Alabasta.
Skypiea.
Saved all the victims of thriller bark.
Fishman island.)
And tons of more heroic stuff. Even if Luffy doesn't choose to be a hero, he still ends up being the hero.
Naruto didn't start being the "hero" until he saved Konoha from Pain really. He hadn't done much heroic up to that point. And Konoha was really destroyed when he got there, but he did save all the citizens.

It's not deeds that make one a hero, but the character of the person behind those deeds. A hero puts the lives of others as their number one priority, Luffy's heroisms were only the convenient byproducts of his selfish goal of becoming the pirate king. There are many times in which luffy could save people's lives such as helpless marines or pirates, yet he chooses not to. Naruto goes the extra mile countless times for the innocent, even for the enemy. It is the character of a person that makes them a hero and clearly, luffy's character gives a rats a** about the greater good.
