The September issue of Monthly Nikkei Entertainment's main feature is "The Newest Ranking 150: Writers & Manga Artists". According to the article, the top-selling manga artist in Japan in the period December 28, 2009-June 12, 2011 is Eiichiro Oda (ONE PIECE) by an overwhelming margin. He had sold 54,856,000 copies of his ONE PIECE manga in the period. The number is close to five times of the second-selling manga NARUTO's 11,035,000 copies.

thats odd because they say that naruto is more succesful then all the other manga combined :/
yeah I heard that too but popular animes always has a close gap ie. Naruto, Bleach, One piece, FMA and Fairytail. Then there are some new animes who got popular so easily and become a new competitor like Aoi exorcist.
So to be short, the most popular anime isn't always on top.
One piece is pupular from 1st to 2nd quarter of the year but maybe in 3rd quarter it'll be different.

People who say Naruto is better than OP usually never watched/read it, or quit after a few chapters. It just keeps getting better and better each time, while on the other hand, in Naruto, I feel like the story is dragged around far too long.
Naruto is great, One Piece is just better than that. xD
