Sorry man I'll have to disagree. I had no feeling when Ace died. But when Robin cried and screamed that gave me goosebumps. I think Merry death was more sad then Ace. No hate just my opinion

I like that about One Piece. It takes real life events (such as drugs, chemical weapons, corrupted governments, slavery) and real life places and Oda incorporates them into his manga. I love the way One Piece is now going anyway. If you don't like those things, simply ignore them. There really isn't that many in every single arc.

Good question. Whether you believe it or not, the manga\anime can be used as some sort of lesson.

A Japanese teacher was giving a lesson at classes about racism, how much the Africans and American Africans suffered of slavery for centuries. He took Chopper as an example for those students who read\watch One Piece.
