Its not that he was holding back. Kaidou has been rumoured to be difficult to reason with so i see no other way than to fight and talk with him. That said Kaidou is practically industructible !

Clover may know the name of the 800 years fallen country through reading the Poneglyphes. I can't say for sure he knows. The only thing that makes sense is that language of Poneglyphe wouldn't exist without a country. And such stone that is indestructible and unscratched, gives a view of how strong this country which makes her a threat to other countries. Ancient Weapons isn't the only thing that World Government fear. It's the makers.

Akainu didn't shit himself. Akainu has the same expression no matter who he's fighting: He's gritting his teeth and his eyebrows are arched in like he's taking a shit. Shanks was such a threat at MF because he had his crew and subordinates. Shanks by himself would have gotten trashed at Marineford. People sure love to take what happened with the Akagami Pirates, and even facial expressions these days, wildly out of context.

It's surprise at the fact that another Yonko showed up. Bear in mind that Yonko very rarely get involved in each other's business because they're enemies, and Shanks was "clashing" with another Yonko seas away just days before. The man who went toe to toe with the World's Strongest Man and insulted him isn't gonna be scared of a man who's considered inferior.
