[Discussion] One Piece Art Style

I was just thinking, so many people hate one piece because of the character designs. Personally I've grown quite fond of it but whenever people try to get into one piece most of the time they would end up dropping it because they hate the art. I mean for those of us that's already hooked we know how amazing the story itself is not to mention the strong connection we feel with the characters because of back stories. If only most characters didn't look so weird one piece would have an even larger community. I know it brings a sense of originality but I honestly see it as flaw. Many times I recommend one piece to my real life friends and they end up quitting around arlong arc. One piece could be perfect if it just had bad ass looking character designs like bleach, project k or Tokyo ghoul.

Pretty much no people I've met have been able to objectively give reasons why One Piece's art is bad, only subjective reasons, and then try to say the art is objectively bad.

One Piece HAS bad ass looking character designs. It's just Oda's choice to draw some that don't

I think that is pretty great, he has the ability to draw everyone in a super cool way if he wanted to but decides that some of them are just a bit silly. It is also a great filter because apparently it throws up a barrier for assholes that can't get over someone with a big mouth or tiny legs.

It's very hard to draw a awesome story with great designs.. this is not Bleach or Fairy Tail.

I don't like the art style but the story and humor is good. I still did drop it early tho, I plan to catch up because the 2016 hd quality did it justice. It's just the amount of episodes overwhelms me.

Seriously, majority of people who dislike OP dropped it at the beginning. Even other manga artist like the creator of the Gundam series said OP isn't entertaining but only read up to the Baratie. Its all premature judgment that people use to bring down OP as a whole.

I say people don't like the art style because it's something they aren't used to. People like being able to relate to things to feel comfort and there are no people that are the shape of the characters in one piece. I personally feel like the characters are amazingly drawn. It really fits them

Its annoying to read to some (including myself) and absolutely refuses to let the readers take anything seriously when it looks so goofy and terrible, fights go smoothly (relatively) but realism is lost and I feel no initiative to take interest in characters that look like garbage lol, even though most of them aren't good characters anyways.

Yup, no objective reasoning. Just saying synonyms for bad when asked what makes it bad as though those are explanations, with a sprinkle of subjectivity to defend an objective statement.

1-He said he couldn't take them serious.

I used to think that OP has a bad drawing and refused to read it many years. At the final of Naruto and Bleach and with the Boruto manga so dissapointing i needed to read a long manga. So i started to read it thinking that the story should be good.
What was amazing was that the drawing is not bad at all and really fits the story and the fantasy world of OP. Why realism? When a guy can be a rubber man where do you search some realism? At contrary, Oda's choice for the drawing style is making the characters easy to notice and the manga easy to read. More realism would kill this manga. Now for me Oda sensei is a great mangaka first because of his drawing style on OP.

That doesn't make the art style bad. Like I said, he made an objective statement about the art, and gave subjective reasoning. That's BS.
