Now, don't look at the title and assume me to be one of those whiners who say that the manga has gone from worse to horrible, because that's not me. I like the manga the way it is. There is, however, something I believe Kishimoto could have done better, something that would have made it a hell of a lot better.
He killed off the Akatsuki too soon.
I get the fact that it was a stage to immensely develop some characters (Naruto, Shikamaru, Hinata, Sakura etc.) but I honestly think that some of the Akatsuki were possibly some of the best villains in manga history. Take Nagato, for example. I believe a good villain is not the type that want to 'take over the world'; I believe great villains are people who are doing the right things. Nagato had a 'peace through pain' ideal that he tried to make a reality through the way he thought would be best; showing people 'true pain'.
I would be perfectly fine with it if killing the Akatsuki led to a new, better plot, but let's be honest here; the subsequent war isn't exactly Naruto's finest point. It's pretty good, but I think that if the main conflict was Jinchuuriki vs. Akatsuki, it could have been better.
The current villains aren't even that good; Obito is as emotionally conflicted as an adolescent boy, and Madara is generic villain #36819. With Itachi, Tobi, and Nagato as primary antagonists, the story would have been much more interesting.
And this concludes my opinions. Remember, I don't dislike the way Naruto is now, just think it could have been a bit better. I'm sure (or at least hope) that Kishimoto knows what he's doing.
