Despite having many flaws, and the writing being awful. I can appreciate one important thing in the Gaiden aside from the message (Bonds > DNA).
I think it was really cool for Kishimoto to show that Konohagakure had an orphanage, run by Kabuto, who had enough funding and space to take in about (estimating) 100ish Shin clones. They don't have parents, they don't have friends, and they don't have any form of solidification when it comes to being a regular person.
Remind you of anyone?
One of the greatest things about that significant orphanage, is the message that it shows when you connect it to not only Naruto, but with many characters who have all had tragic pasts. Tsunade, Kakashi, Nagato, Yahiko, Konan, Obito, Naruto, Sasuke, Neji, Hinata, Madara, Hashirama, etc.,
It gives them a home, and a family that will look after them, and give these kids a choice to have happiness, and not to be thrown aside to be swallowed by contempt. Naruto didn't see these experiments as things he could kill and be done with, he saw the kids with potential for good, literally as "kids". Getting a chance to be a kid in this series is the biggest gift any character can have whether it be good, evil, or neutral cause. Because it is a rare chance.
I watched this series, for Naruto and as I continued to grow with different characters I expanded on that attachment. I am proud that at least Kishimoto showed us more of what Naruto has accomplished as a Hokage.
