Kishi made it look like a Rinnegan to emphasize him having similar type of eye power as Hagoromo, maybe as the original Mangekyo wielder Indra's Sharingan was different from the conventional eyes Uchiha possess.


I think it's possible he could've had 6 MS jutsu the same way Hagoromo's dojutsu has 6 Paths hence why their eye powers were compared, it could be why the original Sharingan design has 6 tomoe. #IlluminatiConfirmed

Kaguya's dojutsu was equally split between her son and grandson, if Hagoromo got all her Rinnegan feats and Hamura got all her Byakugan feats, then wouldn't it make sense that Indra could use all the feats Uchiha inherited from her ? (i.e : Tsukuyomi and S/t)

Their MS comes from having his DNA after all....

The Rinnegan is a completely different dojutsu though. Sharingan comes from Kaguya's RinneSharingan.

It's why Itachi has a smaller scale of her genjutsu and why Obito can use kamui to travel dimensions like Kaguya

IMO, the lack of explanation on Indra's weird eye design is one of the biggest missed opportunities in this series.

No sharingan ms/ems is what happened because indra only inherited the yin part and that's why getting ashuras chakra the yang part makes it back into a rinnegan
Hago said that mixing hashi(ashura)chakra with madara(indra)is why madara awakened the rinnegan
