Ok, I am not cherry picking when I am saying this, but over the course of the past few months, especially this recent month, I have noticed that there is a huge divide within the Naruto fanbase. From what I can tell, the fandom is torn 50/50 when it comes to liking and disliking the Naruto ending as a whole.

I went online to look at some Japanese review aggregators, critic reviews and fan reviews and so far most of them are not all too satisfied with the Naruto Ending, especially with The Last: Naruto The Movie.

Then I go online again and take a look at fan polls on the Naruto ending and it ranges to either 53% satisfied vs 47% dissatisfied or 50/50. When it comes to The Last: Naruto The Movie, most if not all Sasuke fans are pissed off entirely for some reason. Heck, just looking at some of these threads on both Narutobase, Reddit and Naruto forums and Deviantart (Which surprisingly does have a forum section within it), a lot of people are divided over both Naruto chapters 699, 700 and The Last: Naruto The Movie.

I mean granted that Kishimoto can't please everybody, but from what I can tell, it seems that he has literally chopped his fanbase in half for now.

So I guess what my question is: Will Naruto Part 3 bring the entire fanbase back together again or will it remain divided like how it is now?

Well I can understand why Sauce fans are upset. From what I've heard Sasuke is only at the end of the movie for all of like 1 minute. Not sure why Kishi went that route considering how HUGE Sasuke's fanbase is around the world. That's like having a movie about Naruto and havining Naruto appear at the end of the movie.

As far as shorts that are to come and the other movies, it's hard to say if most, if any, of those fans will return. Jerking people around like this can seriously hurt your fanbases.

There are too many reasons why the fanbase has been divided recently.

There's obviously the whole Naruto vs Sasuke debacle and arguments about who is stronger and whatnot and then you also have the pairing tards who from now on either hate Kishimoto or love him. And part 3 will only add onto the fuel. If you're a hardcore NS fan, like Chatte, then obviously you're gonna dislike the ending, the movie, and any future naruto related stories, like the Boruto series.

With everything that the ending has resolved, of course you're gonna divide your fanbase. And no. Part 3 won't help.

I didn't like the overt money grab that was The Last. It was marketing genius. I have to give them credit for it in terms of theme, timing, and hype created, not to mention that the mangaka said it was "connected to canon".

I don't plan to read the mini-series.

I think that the 'reason' is obvious enough. ^^
As for Part3, I think the fanbase would still be divided up; those who were not contented with the final couples would still stick to their opinions if Kishi were to elaborate more on said couples in ways that would fuel their hate more. And it will go the other way for those who actually liked it.

Just reading the comments on here and I have to say that I agree with all of them. It's truly sad that it turned out this way for the Naruto series and it's fanbase.. very sad. :(

Well i saw the movie and i did like it. The ending wasn't the best thing ever but it also wasn't the worst. I think whats happening is that people were so into these fanfiction ideas of their characters being together just upset them so much that they are going to say they didn't like it and hate the 699/700 and the last. I think give it some time and everyone will change how they feel about the story. I thought it ended well for me.

I think all of those stats are somewhat confounded with the distress of Naruto ending. The ending was never going to live up to the expectations considering the massively long lead up to the ending. Then consider that the majority of Naruto fans are adolescents who are likely lacking the the ability to control their impulse judgements and then reflect (due to neurological changes in teh adolescant brain). So you will get inflated stats of people 'voicing' their disent.

Yeah, there's absolutely no way that any amount of damage control that can be done to repair the fandom.

Personally, I feel pretty disgusted with the ending and how it feels like Kishi just gave up. I'll probably still read Part 3 out of sheer curiosity, but I have my expectations set to absolute zero and I'm in no way spending a cent on it.

For the future of the Series' sake, I wish that last part you said about people's attitudes to be the case. But as of now, it seems doubtful that will happen any time in the near future unfortunately.

I actually agree with you more than than AnimusOra on this topic. I do not exactly have high expectations for Part 3 either.

I think that the only thing that will be the saving grace for the Pairing tards will be BoruSara becoming canon, which it most likely will knowing Kishimoto's formula (with all due respect to him of course) and Orochimaru being the main villain with Kabuto making a reappearance as well for the rest of the fanbase, which depending on how all that will be handled is currently a tossup.

Either way, I hope Part 3 will be handled much better than Part 2 and will go back to being as good as Part 1 was. If not, then maybe in a decade or so, the entire Naruto manga will be rebooted just like how other comics have been rebooted. Especially in DC and Marvel Comics cases.

Are you referring to the NS/SK/SNS shippers that feel pretty betrayed by the ending? From what I'm gathering, a majority of them would feel even more alienated than they already are by having BoruSara be canon. (Particularly SNS shippers because now one's a girl so that's supposed to make it ok.) Although there are a few of them that just want Uzumaki/Hyuga/Uchiha/Haruno babies being spawned.

The mini-series is going to be really short so I don't know what Kishi could possibly do in it to make it good. Kabuto's my favorite villain though, so I want to see him again. An eventual reboot would be really appreciated.

About Naruto ending, the reason that the fanbase is splitted in two was technicaly and obliviously shipping.

None of the shippingers, specialy NS fans didn't care about characters like Taka, Yamato or Orochimaru and never cared about any logic errors of the manga till chapter 699, but after that suddenly the critic borned in them.

The ending was typical long running shonen fight ending like Kinnikuman, Dragon Ball Z, Hokuto No Ken and Kenichi - tons of things left unanswered or forgotten and some not important characters are left out. That's the problem with all of of these long running serieses, the longer they are running the lowest chance that it would satisfy all fans.
