Actually there is lot of thinking behind that.
Usually name, characteristics, looks, desires -basically a whole person, is interconnected, these aren't isolated things.
Now whenever you create a fictional world, you're practically imitating real life because that's all you can really do, who can think up a world that has elements not present in real life in some form? And there is the thing that we don't understand this system of world/people to it's core so that one could just change things on a deeper level.
In simple terms, it's like when you go to a doctor you don't self-diagnose, you tell them symptoms as they are because although something may not mean anything to you they may mean something different to them. So I think when mangakas do this they're preserving that value in reality, rather then recreating something we humans don't yet understand, they reflect it. There is integrity in that.
I think even after a lot of thinking on "how do I come up with names that suit this" they may end up taking inspiration from real life.
