IESB.net was on hand at the Unaccompanied Minors press day in Los Angeles, where producer Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men Series) gave some updates and announcements about Constantine 2. Keanu Reeves will be back, but the previous director, Francis Lawrence, will not be directing, only producing. From their report:
IESB: Are we ever going to see a sequel to Constantine?
LSD: Yes, with Keanu [Reeves]. We have been working with a team of writers for a story and yes, we will. We are really going to go for it, it will be a hard 'R' and Keanu will be in it. The area that we found is great-it will be outside of America. It will be a different director but Francis [Lawrence] will produce it, we will maintain his vision.
Sounds pretty good to me. The first Constantine is by far not my favorite comic book movie, but I thought it was a very visionary creation, and I'm glad they'll be making a second one as the first one definitely left some doors open for sequels. No updates on when pre-production will start yet.
Untitled Chronicles of Riddick Sequel 2
n a March 8, 2006, article on Comingsoon.net, it was reported that Vin Diesel claimed that a sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick was in the works.[3] According to him, he had already written a storyline that covered a trilogy which began with the Chronicles of Riddick. Another article on Comingsoon.net, written on March 11, 2005, reports that Vin Diesel states that Chronicles 2 was to deal with The Underverse, while Chronicles 3 was to conclude the series with a return to Furya.[4]
An article dated November 10, 2007, on countingdown.com, further indicates that a sequel may be in works - "We're talking about it". David Twohy indicates however that it "probably won't be a Universal movie and probably will be an independent movie" seeing a much smaller budget.[5]
Two more sequels have been confirmed for production, and David Twohy is now writing the scripts.[6] Diesel told MTV News that in spite of the poor reception, the time between the sequels is only about getting it right, not about trying to find support.
"Everyone knows I love the Riddick character and I?m always working on it,? Diesel asserted. ?It just takes five years to make another one because David Twohy and I are so precise about it.?[7]
On March 20, 2009, Vin Diesel commented on a sequel in an interview on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, stating that David Twohy has nearly finished scripts, and is planning to start production on the third film in early 2010.
REsident EVIL AFTER LIFE
Sequel
In July 2005, producers mentioned the possibility of following Extinction with a sequel titled Resident Evil: Afterlife, to be shot and set in Tokyo, Japan and Alaska.[50][51][52] Despite Resident Evil: Extinction being billed on the official website and elsewhere as the final installment of the Resident Evil film series, Rory Bruer, Sony's head of distribution explained, "It absolutely would not surprise me considering the success of the franchise that they find a way to come up with another. It's a real possibility".[53] Producer Jeremy Bolt also stated that while there was no intention of making a fourth film, that the third had been particularly well done and that Paul Anderson was talking with Sony about the possibility.[54].
In October 2007, reports indicates that casting for the fourth film begun, with Jensen Ackles being considered for the role of Leon S. Kennedy.[55][56] However, bringing Leon as a character in an upcoming film would contradict promotional information from Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Screen Gems created a faux newspaper, The Raccoon City Times, that detailed the background of Jill Valentine, and included that she was dismissed from the S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) after the death of her partner, Leon Kennedy.[57] Ali Larter confirmed she would reprise her role "100% if asked".[58] In the same month, production began on Resident Evil: Degeneration, a full-length computer-generated animated film based on the original game series.[59] A 60-second sneak peek of the film was included on the DVD and Blu Ray release for Resident Evil: Extinction which was released in January 2008.[31]
Nearly a year later, Anderson noted that negotiations were underway with Sony for creating the film.[60] During an interview with IGN in December 2008, Anderson stated that he was working on the script.[61] The following year, ShockTillYouDrop.com announced that Sony was aiming to release Resident Evil: Afterlife by September 17, 2010.[62] In a subsequent interview, Anderson stated he would now be directing the film as well, and that 'Afterlife' would be a 3-D film that will start a new Resident Evil film trilogy. He also stated the film had the largest budget in the series thus far and confirmed that Milla Jovovich would be returning to portray Alice. It will also feature new characters taken from the video games.[63] At the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con, Jovovich also confirmed her return in the lead role, and noted that the clones from Extinction would be returning.[64]
