I rarely read modern stuff. Except for Harry Potter and some Dan Brown books etc. Most of the so called bestsellers nowadays are crappy. The word bestseller to me means a warning not to read that book...Seen a trailer of Twilight. :| Seen the movie Veronica decides to die :| I was like wtf :rage:
Sometimes I hear people talk about books like 50 shades of grey, I see crappy Coelho quotes and that makes me sick.
Jeez I'm really annoyed by today's popular books. Now I'm pissed -_-
But of course I like 20th century classics and Nobel prize-winners like Camus, Böll.
And I'll give a chance to Stephen King when I feel ready ...

Somehow I knew that you don't like modern day literature. :yeah: But you have to admit that some modern day books are good...I mean, not all of them are crappy.
But I'm surprised that you liked Harry Potter. What about today most popular epic fantasy novels A song of Ice and Fire?
Hmm, I'm ashamed to admit but I don't know what is Veronica decides to die :erm:
Camus is great writer, I really enjoyed reading The Stranger. However I've never read anything from Böll.
Last day in a train I saw my old teacher and he was reading something from Stephen King and he highly recommended me to start reading his books, so I think I’m gonna buy a book and start reading it soon.

Well, classics are harder to read, with all those difficult words. For me it modern books. But Pride and Prejudice, a christmas carrol and Jane eyre are for me the best classics :)

I like both, good books can be found in all eras.I haven't read a classic in years now though, modern literature is often so much easier to read. it's funny though how the books that are hardest to read are often the ones I enjoy reading the most, so maybe I should get back to them :) my favourite is the song of ice and fire so far, brilliant series

Old 4 me, Faerie Queene & Paradise Lost me likee...though some of Russell's Essays r not bad either :hint:
So you like English classics?
Paradise Lost is one of the best books I've ever read and I definitively think that it deserves a position of the best epic poem in English literature. Although I like Spenser too, for me, Milton is way better and I prefer to read him to Spenser.

Yeah... classics are a little bit complicated but that is the reason why I like them in the first place. You have to agree with me that modern day literature sometimes can be plain to that extent that it's not interesting for reading.
I adore Dickens (and Christmas Carol) and off course Bronte but I've never liked Jane Austen, but I would definitively say that Emma is my favourite novel from her.

You definitively need to start reading classics again. I’m not saying that you should only read classics but I would never recommend to you to read only modern day literature.
I didn’t read all the books but Song of Ice and Fire is really good. I heard that there is TV series based on books.
