Yeah you're right, Masashi has to nerf Sasuke to give Naruto a chance against him, hence making him lose his sword before fighting Naruto, otherwise he would have killed him within a few panels.

In chapter 6 Naruto was easily hit by Sasuke’s sword which gave him intense pain, so much so that he couldn’t maintain the Kyuubi avatar, thus leaving Sarada defenseless. So we know swords are highly effective against Naruto.

Against Madara in chapter 674, Sasuke was easily able to peirce his sword through the Strongest Shinobi in history’s heart, the only reason he survived was due to being the Juubi’s Jin, and having absorbed the Shinju Tree thus attaining immortality.


Knowing Sasuke could easily hit Naruto aswell, he had him fight Naruto without his sword to keep him from killing Naruto within a few panels.

In the very beginning of the fight Sasuke teleported behind Naruto, and hit him with Chidori.
