Ogama Chapter 1 – Akunen
Youchi could feel the wind gently pressing upon his cheeks creating a tickling sensation, like recieving a kiss from his mother. The sun stood at its highest point of the day, arching of the forest where his village lay like a tall stone guardian ever watchful of its people.
Youchi sat upon the Cliffside looking out towards the horizon, there were very few things that comforted Youchi more then staring out into the empty openness of the ocean, his violin was one of them. No matter where he ventured he always carried his violin and the bow that accompanied it. He kept the violin tightly strapped to his back and always kept the bow in hand as if to ward off any eminent danger or presence that would seek to cause him harm. To any other individual the musical instrument would present itself a plain violin, but to Youchi the item carried much more sentimental value. For inscribed upon the base of the violin was the word, “Akunen”. Youchi had no idea as to the origin of the word but this ignorance never damped his curiosity. He would spend hours at a time reading the inscription and contemplating its meaning, to him finding the origin of the word seemed a life worthy task.
Afternoon came and Youchi remained at his place on the Cliffside, however the voice of Seraia, his foster mother, began to sound from his home upon who’s foundation lay within calls reach. The sweet smell of sugar and honey infected him and he saw this as the ideal time to proceed home.
Before moving, Youchi placed his hand upon his back checking to see that his violin was in place. The furnished wood felt smooth upon his palm, the strings sung gently as he glazed his fingers over them, but as he finished his examination of the instrument, Youchi felt a slight sting to the upper right of his torso, but Youchi was un-phased and proceeded with his journey home.
Youchi turned and once again felt the sting in his torso, but this time the pain was unbearable. Screaming in agony, Youchi fell to his knees, his child-like eyes awash in tears and his teeth gritting intensely. He could feel a warm wetness around his chest, it was un-like anything he had experienced before. A stroke of anxiety ran through his mind its effect more intense than the chest pain, he slowly and timidly with eyes wide open tilted his head towards his chest. There before his eyes was blood and not just a little, enough to bathe in. His pupils shrunk suddenly, almost to the point where they were invisible, his hands went cold and then his entire body became limp. The darkness crept from all sides the fabled black curtains signifying the shows end were now upon him.
Just as his eyes were closing, there stood before him a tall dark figure with eyes a red as the blood he now lay soaked in. In his hand lay a small blade, glistening against the suns rans with drops of blood hanging from its tip. As his eyes slowly closed, Youchi saw the engravement of his violin burning brightly…the word ‘Akunen’ .
