i believe izamai was activated when itachi cute kabuto horn .Itachi maybe needed to record the fight to form the loop event till kabuto about to slash him.

Kabuto is seen being hostile but in the next panel he is showed being completely still.

On top of that Itachi is petting Kabuto.

It looks like he trapped Kabuto in a genjutsu.

I think Itachi used Izanami in conjuction with his genjutsu meaning the fight was an illusion the whole time.
